Blonde hair gone brown

I'm 50 and in the last 6 years or so my hair has turned from a pretty light blonde to mousey brown. I've never had my hair coloured and am clueless about different types of colour, highlights etc. I have always worn my hair short and am very low maintenance!

I feel really strange with the wrong colour hair! I'm so used to being blonde. I assume it's another part of the menopause, and I don't mind ageing generally, but I thought I'd go gracefully grey, not brown first!

Can anyone point me in the direction of a basic guide to changing hair colour? I'm happy to pay to get it done well rather than bodge it up myself, or shall I just put up with it and hope it goes grey soon?

(when I say 'pretty light blonde' I meant it was pretty light. Not claiming prettiness!)

My hair has progressively darkened, I wasn’t expecting it either. I get highlights put in sometimes, or do it myself. My hair has quite a lot of different tones in it naturally so my hairdresser just uses one shade of bleach but sometimes it’s more natural if there’s a mix of tones. I think the key is whether your hair is warm or cool toned, you need highlights to match.

Mine too, and my dd's has gone from blonde to rosewood brown. And she's not long out of her teens.
