Where to buy wedding guest outfit from?

It's been years since I was a guest at a wedding but my best friend is tying the knot next year and I dont know where to look

I'm early 40's, size 10 and 5ft. I'm thinking I'd like a midi length dress, well cut in a bright colour. Absolutely nothing that will detract from the bride (as if I ever could!). It's not a formal affair but I'd like to look well put together and I'd like something to wear in my hair (not a hat). Budget around £200. Oh and it's a spring wedding. Many thanks!

I would have said Coast, but the quality has gone a bit shit since they got bought by BooHoo.

Silk Fred or Monsoon?

Hope and Ivy

I've had a couple of nice dresses for formal occasions from Roman Originals before.

I've just posted on another similar thread - TKMaxx have a lot of good quality designer dresses online, with huge savings (80% in some cases saving hundreds). Might be worth a look.

The website doesn't give very clear pictures but might be worth ordering and taking the chance on having to return.

I wish I was going somewhere to wear something so nice, these dresses would normally be out of my price range!

Ugh Coast was such a good go-to for this. I’m so annoyed they went to BooHoo. My second go-to was Monsoon but the quality has taken a dive.

I’ve got a couple of really nice Adrianna Pappel ones. Ted Baker do nice bright summer wedding outfits but I get annoyed paying that much for polyester.

Most likely if I got invited to a wedding now I’d dig out one of my Coast dresses from before they went to shit and update the accessories to go with.

Rixo or Self Portrait (often available in sale, at the Outnet or with a discount code, e.g. Matches has £100 off when you spend £300 at the moment if you’re signed up there). Should be able to get on your budget and their dresses are typically v flattering.

Brilliant thanks for all the suggestions, I'll sit down tonight and have a good look. I have got a lovely dress from coast which no one at this wedding will have seen, I could get new accessories to go with it but it's quite a structured, fitted dress and I was wanting something more floaty. It'll be a good back up though.

Jolie Moi could be quite good - John Lewis sell them, but they have their own website as well. It's not the best website, but it does have their end of line stuff with a big reduction as well as the latest lines. I have one gorgeous dress from them, which is good quality and was more than half price when I bought it directly. I just need an occasion to buy another!

I love this dress... wish I was skinny enough to buy it for me. They don't currently have it in a 10 though maybe will get more in stock.

Phase eight?

FreekStar · 07/04/2021 19:15

Hobbs! I've just bought this midi dress for a summer wedding. I've been assured it's not too 'white'. Going to stay with pink accessories- and maybe a fascinator?

FreekStar · 07/04/2021 19:21

Or Oliver Bonus, Ghost, Jigsaw, LK Bennett, Whistles, Reiss?

EternalOptimist7 · 07/04/2021 19:24

Boots has some fascinators in their jewellery sale

FreekStar · 07/04/2021 20:05

If you're 5ft then maybe look at the petite ranges fro a dress because at your height they could be too long and overwhelm your frame a little. I'm 5'7" and the Hobbs midi dress is probably longer than it is on the model on me. Models are about 5'10 or 5'11".
