Clothes for overweight girl?

oxcat1 · 05/04/2021 18:08

Due to a very serious medical condition, my friend's daughter is quite overweight. She carries her weight predominantly around her tummy and bum, and also often retains a significant amount of fluid, so can have a very changeable waist size over the course of the day. She is
10, but clothes generally need to be age 14+ in order to fit comfortably around her tummy, which can be very sore if compressed.

Can anybody recommend any good sites for age-appropriate clothes that might fit? She isn't tall enough for adult clothes, and still wants pretty clothes with cute details, like other girls her age.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

Next or m and s? Look for adjustable waistbands or elastic waist. Or jd sports.

Primark are really good for Disney t shirts...

oxcat1 · 05/04/2021 19:36

Thanks both.

It looks as though Next used to do a plus-side range, but although I can find newspaper articles about it, I can't find the items themselves. I have found school uniform, but not casual clothes.

I have to say that I am surprised, as I assumed this would be a growing market?

Next only sell them online. You can’t get them in the shops.

Violeta by Mango do bigger sizes.

Would this be any use, moreforkidsuk.com/product-category/girls/

HopingForABetterYear · 05/04/2021 22:43

I have this with my daughter and
We buy the majority of her clothes from the women's department in primary and h & m

goose1964 · 05/04/2021 22:43

Amazon also sell age appropriate clothing in later sizes but you have to trawl through the crap.

JustGiveMeGin · 06/04/2021 00:43

Websites like Shein might have something, they tend to run small (good for her height) and have loads of cute girly designs.

RedGoldAndGreene · 06/04/2021 00:46

H&M go up to age 14+
M&S go up to age 16
George (Asda) and Tu go to age 14 too

Lou98 · 06/04/2021 00:53

Definitely Primark once they open again, they have loads of stuff in the women's section that would be the right size but also age appropriate for a 10 year old

MiddleEasternMummy · 06/04/2021 01:10

Juicy couture go up to age 16 . I have the same problem with my daughter due to her thyroid. I can't stand bling clothes that you associate with juicy but I was surprised they had a lot of choice .

slooowdaysinlockdown · 06/04/2021 01:33

As she gets older/taller suggest looking at petite adult ranges eg dorothy perkins

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 06/04/2021 09:08

H and M do plus size girls too.

oxcat1 · 06/04/2021 10:44

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I think I am being really daft, but I can't find anything on the H&M site? Their size guide talks about the generous fit girls clothes, but when I 'view all' and try to filter by size, none of the generous sizes come up? Am I missing something obvious?

Yeah it’s generous fit.

Maybe the filter is having an off day?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 06/04/2021 10:54

www2.hm.com/en_gb/search-results.html?q=Generous+fit

Here. They don’t many though.

Miseryisabutterfly · 06/04/2021 11:08

Would the ASOS petite range work with her height? I’m sure there’s some youthful bits. It’s available in 14, 16+

Miseryisabutterfly · 06/04/2021 11:18

This kind of thing?

I buy my 10 nearly 12 year old from the women's department in H&M not the kids section.

InglouriousBasterd · 06/04/2021 11:28

When Primark reopen they do 2xs which are child size. They also go to 14-15 in kids itself.

oxcat1 · 06/04/2021 17:41

Some really good thoughts. Thank you so much.
