It's a jeans one ...

I regard myself as curvy - I'm a size 10/12 with a waist and boobs and I'm just shy of 5ft 3. I've been in skinnies forever and would like to find a nice pair of straight jeans that I can turn up and wear with canvas pumps/trainers or heels. I've bought three pairs now and returned them all - they just look so baggy and scruffy. Is it because I'm not used to them being lose around my calves? I don't seem to be carrying off 'the look' at all well! Anyone else out there with a similar body shape and which cut do you wear? I look at the mom and boyfriend jeans and they just look so huge on the hanger. Any advice gratefully received 😊

We are slightly different shapes OP (if it's relevant I'm 5ft 5 and a size 8 and wouldn't say I was 'curvy') but I find straight leg jeans a challenge and have given up after trying on so many pairs. I just don't feel good in them. I've got reasonably slim calves and ankles and they just widen my leg and cut off any shape in my legs.

I've had much more success with 'slim mom' jeans which I much prefer. The Stradivarius ones are cheap and pretty good. Very high waisted though. My favourite pair are actually from primark and I think are their vintage high waist style.

I'm currently trying to find a pair to replace them and am in a personal hell with it. Nothing fits properly everywhere it should.

Same height, I was the same every jean i tried that wasn't skinnie just didn't look right, I found in marks the lily jean which is a relax skinnie, like them so much I brought two pair, give them ago,

OP
I am beggining to realise that though skinny jeans are my go to, they are not the most flattering on me. I am a size 10 and feel and look bigger than I would like to in skinny jeans. I tend to wear slightly longer tops to balance out the outifit.

Something I have found with mom jeans is that you need a belt to cinch and finish the look, I could take or leave belts with skinnies. A flash of ankle also keeps them from looking too frumpy.

They do look big off if you are used to skinnies, but they are going to be as they are far less stretchy and not skin tight. You just need to order a few different pairs and see what brand/cut works for you. I have linked the pair I like below, I am 5"5, size 8, small waist, larger bum/hips/thighs.

Levis 724 might suit; they're straight but slim. I am about 5ft6 size 8 but muscular legs and these suit.

Thanks everyone! I think I'll have a go with the Lilly slim fits and the slim moms and see how I get on😊

@AfishcalledwonderfulAfishcalledwonderful let us know if you like the lily's, if you do and want to try a new style, oasis scarlet are great, you get them on ebay, they are a slim bootcut,
I love the fit, its a skinnie fit on the waist and hips like the skinnie jeans and they just go a little wider from below the knee, I used to wear them over ten years ago, boot cut are back in style again , love them I brought 3 pairs at £5.00 each, I do have to shorten them I just cut the hems and leave them frayed.

Afishcalledwonderful · 05/04/2021 20:38

@lindyloo57 I used to have a pair of Oasis Scarlet jeans, about 14 years ago! I'd forgotten about those - yes great cut. I'll have a look on eBay 😊 I'll pick up a pair of Lilly's tomorrow as I'm having to take back (yet another pair!) of straights 😂

Hi everyone - just a very important update 😂 I have bought a pair of size 12 Lily slims from M&S and they look great! They only had the dark Indio so I will order the mid wash ones too. Lovely slim fit to the thigh, looser around the calves to give it that straight look but not flapping about like I've got a pair of my Dad's trousers on 😂
