What to wear over those floaty midi dresses in the evenings?

This is really putting me off buying dresses. I live in NI, and it is rarely never warm enough to sit outside in short sleeves. Even inside a restaurant can be nippy in the evenings.
I love the look of the short, leather biker jackets over floaty dresses, but I won't want to keep that on all night. Anyone any ideas?
Don't say pashmina!Grin
Cardigan? Blazer?

Watching with interest.

I’ve been looking at bikers, the sezane zig looks nice in leather, suede and denim.

I like my faded fitted denim jacket but love broderie anglaise, would love to know what it looks like, pp.

Cropped cardigan.

jeans jacket.

Palavah · 06/04/2021 18:39

Leather biker, denim blouson, cropped chunky jumper or longline granddad cardi

elsaesmeralda · 06/04/2021 18:40

Cropped Denim jacket or leather jacket/biker jacket

Shirazzam · 06/04/2021 18:49

Denim jacket, one of the only times I actually get to wear mine (I live in jeans the rest of the year and not a fan of double denim).

Cropped cardigans are in at the moment, although finding one without massive balloon sleeves is a bit harder.

A knitted ballet style cardigan/top could look fabulous? Just make sure it’s waist length and no longer.
Or a really nice jersey biker. Mint Velvet have a grey one in the sale at the moment for £39.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 06/04/2021 20:16

Thank you Carycy looks lovely.

Cowbells · 07/04/2021 15:15

The broderie anglaise looks gorgeous but not sure it would keep OP warm outside in NI. I like PP's suggestion of an outsize sweater over a dress. It's a look that can work so well if the weather suddenly turns.

I bought two wrap cardigans in different colours from & other stories for this very reason. They are nice and cosy and I’ve had a lot of compliments when I’ve worn them.

mrschocolate, this is exactly what I was thinking of! I think I’ll get one too Flowers

mrschocolatte · 08/04/2021 08:16

@MummyJ12 Oh good choice! I hope you love them as much as I do. Smile

Alez · 08/04/2021 08:41

If you're expecting to need to be warmer all night i.e. don't want to have to take the jacket/cardigan off another option is to wear a thin turtleneck under the dress. I have a lot of thermal ones from Uniqlo that I wear under my dresses. Erica Davies on Instagram styles dresses like this a lot of you want some inspo

FreekStar · 08/04/2021 08:55

I think it's better to wear a layer under than over your dress. I would feel dowdy in a cardigan or a hoody in an evening. Or I would keep a leather or denim jacket on outside.

Shosha1 · 08/04/2021 09:12

I've just knitted 2 fitted cardigans with slightly puffed sleeves for DDIL, one is in a silky bamboo the other merino. She lives in them.

@Howshouldibehave

Nooooooo! Waterfall cardigans are dreadful. A cropped boxy one is the way to go.

Well, perhaps in your opinion. I know that anything boxy looks terrible on me.

I wouldn’t dream of telling anyone that the suggestion they made to an OP was dreadful, though!

I'm the same, biker jackets just don't suit me and I bought a lovely sage green denim jacket last year and just looked awful on me
WindFlower92 · 09/04/2021 08:34

What about some sort of shawl? You can just wrap it around you and style it differently depending on the dress?

lindyloo57 · 09/04/2021 16:42

@shosha1 I wish I could knit, that cardigan is just what I'm looking for.

Shosha1 · 10/04/2021 15:23

@lindyloo57 if you DM me I actually do knit for people.
