Hello, I'm a total style and beauty novice. Can one of you wiser ones help me out please? Is this type of fess good for a podgy tummy? I'm 12/14 but with too much of a tummy. www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/amelie-jersey-dress-navy-exotic-flight/sty-j0326-nar

I have a big tummy and wouldn't buy that. I think the gathers on the waist will make your tummy look bigger.

AlexandraEiffel · 03/04/2021 12:28

Thank you that's v helpful

I have a podgy tummy and I am a big fan of tiered dresses. They aren’t everyone’s cup of tea though and don’t suit all body shapes.

Tillyscoutsmum · 03/04/2021 15:09

I'm a similar shape and size and go for wrap/draping across the tummy area. I get most of my work clothes from Joe Browns

I find all of Boden jersey dresses are awful on me with a round tummy. Straighter dresses, a-line or sweatshirt dresses from Boden are all much better. I only ever wear dresses and occasionally jeans.

AlexandraEiffel · 03/04/2021 17:30

Thank you so much everyone. Much appreciated Smile

I would chose a shift dress or a straight or slightly A line T shirt or sweater dress ; needs to be in a decent quality fabric if it's jersey and be mindful if your underwear.

Empire line dresses that aren't too figure hugging

stuckinarutatwork · 04/04/2021 07:31

I like the Weird Fish Tallahassee dresses

Smashmallow · 04/04/2021 08:38

My friend carries her weight around her middle and she wears beautifully structured shift dresses and always looks very chic.

Thanks for the recommendation. I had a dress this shape years ago I loved but never found another since!

Thanks again everyone. It may seem obvious if you know this stuff but really not to me so very helpful

Shift, straight, slight A line, Empire are the way to go.

Wrap dresses often make those with a tummy look pregnant.

V neck line and if you have good legs above the knee.

This kind of shape is good for big tummy. I have to agree that Boden one would only draw attention to it. High empire lines are great though.

I have this too. Size up for a slightly looser fit. It’s more empire line than it looks but is a gorgeous dress and not expensive.

This Boden dress (link below) is one of the most flattering dresses I think I’ve ever owned. I carry all of my lockdown weight on my midriff and this dress is fantastic.

In fact I’ve just seen that they’ve added new patterns and I’m seriously tempted to buy another one. I have the one with green spots.

laughoutquiet · 09/04/2021 07:59

@AlexandraEiffel is the Weird Fish dress true to size please?

AlexandraEiffel · 09/04/2021 08:06

Pretty much. I'd say a touch on the large size. The size checker told me 12 or 14. I got 14 and it fits fine with a bit of room. 12 would probably have been ok.

@AlexandraEiffel I am going to go against the grain and say the boden Amelie dress surprisingly is flattering. I am the same as you size 12/14 with a big tummy. I bought that dress on a whim with another from boden. The other one went straight back but I was really surprised how good the Amelie dress looked and had lots of compliments. Thinking of buying another colour!
