I haven't worked in an office for years

Just got a new job
I don't see anyone to be honest but

I can't work out how to dress

I used to work for a busy office and basically wore all Reiss or FC clothes

But I'm a bit more Round now and also I don't particularly want to spend that much

In the office two days a week

Live in England but in the bottom of it is it's warm in summer

What shall I wear

I'd suggest making it easy for yourself with a 'uniform' of cigarette style trousers (H&M/Gap/M&S in navy, grey or black) with comfortable tan flats. A few cotton tops and one blazer. H&M do work wear blazers for £25.

It's much better than the skirt/dress route as it's more of a chore to match with the right shoes, deciding if it's warm enough for bare legs and which jacket looks ok with the length of the dress/skirt. A uniform saves wasting money and you can use it for a holiday instead.

Buy a tan bag that you love and it will go with all colours. I got mine from Zara, but Mango usually have good ones too.
If you can afford a trench Mac or car coat (Uniqglo or JCrew), it's so useful for rainy days.
Congratulations on your job!

Thank you Diana a huge help

Yes I think you're right on the trouser front

I'm 5ft which is a pain in the arse

I'll have a look on H&M now xx

I’d suggest not buying lots till you’ve been in and worked out what colleagues are wearing/what the daily routine and your tasks are/temperature etc.

Give it a few weeks. Start with something a bit more formal.

If you end up seeing no-one you might just want a very, very comfy easy casual outfit (eg warm jumper and plain trousers) for sitting at a desk!

Congrats

stylemeplease · 02/04/2021 15:34

It's only me and my boss or my colleague who's also a woman

I've been told I can wear a tracksuit 🤣 how nice is that?

But I'm supposed to grow the business so I want to go and see clients soon

I can't fit in the size 4 dresses I used to wear

Cigarette trousers plus shoes are what I need

Can anyone help with trousers for a size 6 5ft

And also size 3.5 shoes

Thank you 💙💙💙

I am so proud

I have over come a lot to be there

You look beautiful in the outfit you're wearing in the pic. No advice to give really but you really suit red.

Arrowheart · 02/04/2021 15:40

Oh and if 'round' is a size 6, I want to be a circle.

OverByYer · 02/04/2021 15:42

I tend to wear dresses as don’t have to think about what matches

SaborDeSoledad · 02/04/2021 15:43

I love your outfit too!

I'm petite and find Gap trousers and tops fit really well. Plus they usually have a discount code.

Mummaofboys93 · 02/04/2021 15:46

If you're 5ft op make sure when you're buying trousers ect you either buy petite or short leg. I love what you're wearing in your pic as well BTW!

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 02/04/2021 15:46

My Niece wears a lot from Primark - their basics always look good on her & she works in a smart office. She's about your height &size. I'm the same height, but nowhere near your size anymore, unfortunately.

She wears mostly black trousers & various tops, but also pencil skirts (back in fashion last year apparently).

Try a few things, decide what YOUR style is, it sounds like it could be anything YOU wanted it to be!! no confirming to a set look

Congratulations on the job!

I'm with Diana here, I'd perhaps add a warm beige into the mix. Keep it simple and you can vary your look with scarves/jewellery. You are very pretty, I don't think you'll find it hard to look good! And well done with the job and I hope it all works out very well for you.
Londonmummy66 · 02/04/2021 15:51

As you are petite and tiny Uniqlo might be a good option for you. Most of their clothes are fairly plain so likely to be suitable for work.

PolloDePrimavera · 02/04/2021 15:52

Nb re tracksuit, I work from home and could wear whatever but I need to be smart ish or I find I'm just lazy!

stylemeplease · 02/04/2021 16:26

I just feel so gormless

I want to wear clogs and floaty dresses but I wear pink crocs yoga pants and jumpers with swear words on

Or all black all saints type clotheS

I love that dress but feel crazy

I'm 28

Also I rock double denim and have done since errr 1992
Sorry for the filthy mirror and bathroom

Kids

Love the suggestions of Uniqlo and all of the caring comments

Thanks so much

I'm not quite petite but M&S and Gap good for short leg lengths.
Also Uniqlo.

I sometimes wear children's clothes.Grin

I'm also a happy double denim wearer.

KirstenBlest · 02/04/2021 16:55

You look great btw. Dresses and jumpsuits (try new look, uniqlo, monki etc) are good for a no brainer outfit.

LifesLittleDeciders · 02/04/2021 16:56

I’m 25, 5ft and a bit rounder now after DD. Been a dental nurse for years so my daily wear was scrubs! Now I’m just clueless with what to wear or what suits me 🤭 so I’m following..

stylemeplease · 02/04/2021 19:13

@life
I want to wear scrubs and crocs 🤣🤣

I am sure you are on to this by now OP but at 5ft you should be able to buy /8 trousers to wear as full length, I do at 5ft 2. Has made trouser shopping so much easier!

1frenchfoodie · 03/04/2021 08:47

7/8 trousers (not /8). Doh
