Denim jackets?

PoTheDog · 30/03/2021 23:42

Are denim jackets still going to be fashionable this year? I know they are seen as a bit of a staple, but I've always resisted in favour of other jacket styles.

I've spotted a nice Tu one that I am wondering about as a possible gateway jacket to see if I would actually wear it. Probably over dresses/skirts in summer.

I have about 4! The style of the moment comes and goes, but a classic western jacket will always have a place in my wardrobe. They are incredibly versatile and always the one that comes on holiday with me for example. If you type "denim
jacket outfit" into Pinterest you'll get about a gazillion ideas not all of which will involve perky American blonde girls in ripped skinny jeans

PoTheDog · 31/03/2021 06:24

Thanks @Zinnia, the perky American look is exactly what puts me off!

I just wonder that if by now I am so late to the party to bother iyswim. I do sometimes use a denim shirt as a light throw-over in a relaxed grungy way, so have never bothered with a more structured jacket

The antidote to the bouncy, perky Americans are surely the 'Je me fiche' Parisians, multitudes of whom are sporting denim jackets in the chicest ways imaginable. On Pinterest. And always have and always will be. Because they are fashion and clearly, do not give a fuck. Grin

GraceArcher · 31/03/2021 08:47

They are everywhere. I have several and some I've had for about 20 years. The chore jacket look seems popular this year. Toast, Uniqlo and Seasalt have some.

BurbageBrook · 31/03/2021 08:53

I think they’re still stylish especially when worn to add a casual edge to a pretty summer dress.

PoTheDog · 31/03/2021 09:18

@GraceArcher chore jacket? What's that?

@medeaaah Grin I am in no way stylish enough to look French! I am distinctly british: mostly boring with occasional flashes of quirk!

Think I'm going to take the plunge though... now to just decide between mid-blue or pale blue...

OP posts:
Medeaaah · 31/03/2021 09:38

Grin No-one, but no-one is chic enough to count as a true Parisian, not even most Parisians Grin.
Mid-blue is generally more flattering, in my opinion.

GraceArcher · 31/03/2021 10:03

@PoTheDog, a bit like a shacket (hideous term)

Something like this (not keen on the collar)

or this (not the nicest)

They're also known as worker jacket and Le Laboureur jacket.

GraceArcher · 31/03/2021 10:05

This is the Seasalt one

GraceArcher · 31/03/2021 10:07

I'd go for a darker denim.

Amdone123 · 31/03/2021 10:11

Love that Seasalt one, thanks.
I love the look of a denim jacket, but not the feel, so that one is perfect for me.

Jeez the first one looks like something Hannibal from silence of the lambs would wear!! 🤣

GraceArcher · 31/03/2021 10:26

I saw the Seasalt in the shop window the other day and it looks really nice. I'd go for a dark indigo one if I was getting one.

The bleu de travail look is quite Scandi Architect IMO, and are usually in a blue cotton twill. Navy is a good colour.

I've only been in the Seasalt shop once, looking for something for my mother. I thought it was not for me, but they have good quality clothes and do larger sizes. I've looked at them online since.

Finisterre is good too.

GraceArcher · 31/03/2021 10:27

to Le Laboureur ones

Medeaaah · 31/03/2021 10:44

@GraceArcher

The jackets you have linked are very 'on trend' however, will be seriously passe by July. Tis' the way of the trends.
Classic denim jacket, however, is always wearable as utilitarian workhorse and can be brought up to date with the rest of the 'ensemble' and accessories.

Triffid1 · 31/03/2021 10:49

The ones linked to here are too trendy for me. I think a classic denim jacket always has a place and can last for years. I particularly like that so many of them have a bit of stretch in them these days which makes them so much more comfortable to wear.

Having said that, I still have my Levi's jacket from about 25 years ago but clearly can't wear it as my skinny 21 year old self is NOT who I am today. Grin But I am confident that DD will be wearing it at some point in the future.

GraceArcher · 31/03/2021 11:00

@Medeaaah, I have the trucker Levi's jacket. I've worn them since I was a teenager. I've had cropped ones like the C de M one but generally prefer slightly oversized on me.
They're brilliant because of all the pockets, classic look, never too fashionable, looks like you borrowed your boyfriend's etc.

The chore jacket is more a fad. If you buy a decent quality one, it will still be quality. Carrier Company do them, and could always be worn if you fancy a fancy gardening jacket.

I want to look parisian chic after wasting time looking at pintrest

PoTheDog · 31/03/2021 11:13

@GraceArcher thanks for those. I do like the chore style and see how they could be styled to look great, but they remind me of my shop floor jacket that I have to wear at work! In fact, I think Seasalt have just borrowed the design and made it in denim Grin

That is pretty much what they are.

You need nice fabric or it looks like a polycotton overall.

onlyconnect · 31/03/2021 11:28

I'll definitely be wearing my classic one and my new one which is a Uniqulo and a bit chore like ( I learnt a new word on this thread). Apart from looking good, they're really practical on a British summer evening because of the weather but also because they allow us to wear dresses without looking too dressed up.
Go for it!

PoTheDog · 01/04/2021 08:52

Thanks everyone! I nipped into Sainsburys on the way home from work yesterday and got this:

tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/p/Blue-Denim-Jacket-/136545237?istCompanyId=07cf3c1d-7207-477f-aab0-212732e114dd&istFeedId=03391e81-6312-4095-9322-96087f0115ae&istItemId=ipwpmwwrp&istBid=tztx&&src=Google&med=Shopping&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=1585621659&utm_term=136545237136545237&utm_content=shopping&utm_custom1=59859642855&utm_custom2=825-875-8916&gclid=CjwKCAjw3pWDBhB3EiwAV1c5rD2-Gu-vcQgq9riMmoEFNxliYtS1Di2KL07uqZl1hl3qUvAlExXf7hoCln0QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

No stock online, but my local store had loads in. It fits well, slim arms, but slightly relaxed boxy body and finishes at my hip bone. And a good price so I don't feel like it's too much of a risky investment!

PoTheDog · 01/04/2021 09:20
