Are all t-shirt dresses flimsy?

Last year I discovered this dress. I THINK it's called a t-shirt dress, but I've attached a pic just so you know the type I mean. Pretty basic and casual. It's super comfy and I love it. I wore it in the summer with sandals, in autumn with trainers and a jacket, and now it's spring I've cracked it back out again.
BUT the material is pretty flimsy (it's from Dorothy Perkins), when the sunlight hits the skirt you can see the outline of my legs.

I know the solution is to wear a slip or something, but I really hate the way seams and straps show beneath the dress and I think the dress material never flows the same over a slip, plus it'll be less comfy.

It got me thinking (I know this is such a non-issue in the scheme of things!) are all of these types of dresses pretty flimsy or can anyone point me in the direction of some that are of a similar style but better quality?

I'm short so I need petite sizes.

I have one that's probably not better quality - I got from eBay - but it's definitely quite thick material and not see through. It's also got decent pockets.

I found some thick, nice ones a few years ago. One was from Next, the other from M&co.
What about Uniqlo? The fabric is usually a decent quality.

I wouldn't call that a t-shirt dress - it is a jersey dress and they often are quite thin, so they drape.. A t-shirt dress is shaped like a t-shirt but longer, and can often be made of a heavier weight jersey, as in this picture.

That’s nice - where’s it from?

GrumpyHoonMain · 30/03/2021 22:44

I have an Amazon Basics one which is amazing. 100% cotton, soft like a t-shirt, and really great quality - I don’t need a slip or worry about it turning seethru

I’m with @DietrichandDiMaggio. It’s a jersey dress, but yes, sadly the jersey tends to be pretty thin and poor quality.

I do love a T-shirt dress though!

Last summer I bought a couple from Weird Fish. Very good quality.

I’d agree that it’s a jersey dress.

They are casual summer wear. Flimsy does not neccesarily mean poor quality. Some of the finest fabrics are gossamer thin. The mega comfort (for the summer) is in part due to the thinness of the fabric. Personally, l’d relax with the legs showing through slightly apart from at work. I think it’s only a problem if the brevity of the fabric “shouts” at you.

Jersey dress it is then!thank you. Makes searching for them online much easier.
I will check those websites out.

Wear a waist slip. No straps and no VPL. Slips make cheap dresses hang so much better.

Weird fish dresses are really good. One of mine is 6 years old and still looks new. They are always doing discounts too and usually free delivery and returns. Best of all, most have pockets!

I also like their T-shirt's.
