For people that shop at M&S or that used to shop at M&S for clothing, where do you buy your clothes from now? M&S style is just hideous and I feel the most similar to M&S is Next, but where else could I look?

Uniqlo for basics - especially t-shirts, shirts and jumpers. Nice and plain, decent quality.

Everythingiswonderful · 30/03/2021 14:02

@MaudesMum what is the sizing like? I often look at their website but never go through with the purchase as I don’t want to have to return stuff. Thanks

DianaT1969 · 30/03/2021 14:26

I still find some good things in M&S. Very happy with a leather tan belt I just got. Good sports bras. Chinos and cotton jumpers.
Other than that, I buy cotton basics at H&M and dresses at Cos.

MerryChristmasToYou · 30/03/2021 15:19

I really like M&S, the quality is good. I haven't shopped in Next for decades.

Uniqlo site lets you enter your measurements and it will suggest a size.

DianaT1969 · 30/03/2021 15:30

I find it strange that you would think Next is better quality and value than M&S.

GrumpyHoonMain · 30/03/2021 15:32

H&M for me. The basics are so, so good. I love their natural fabrics too. During Lockdown I think it’s returned back to it’s roots - the design quality has def improved.

ElMacchiato · 30/03/2021 15:33

White stuff, fatface, phase 8, warehouse, seasalt.

Still get jeans from m and s.

Overdueanamechange · 30/03/2021 17:15

I used to love Per Una :-( I tend to go for Seasalt, Brakeburn, Weird Fish, Joules. Sainsbury's for jeans!

somethingonthecarpet · 30/03/2021 17:35

I'm finding myself heading back to M&S over the last year or so. Basic work dresses are decent quality, cotton nighties (before Christmas) were good, bras good - going to push the boat out and try their jeans.

You could try Sainsbury's? I like Next swimwear but M&S is rivalling it this year.

Frequentflier · 30/03/2021 17:37

Esprit.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 30/03/2021 22:32

What did you used to buy in M and S? They do have plenty of good stuff, but it depends what you are looking for.

GraceArcher · 30/03/2021 22:38

It depends on the branch with the clothes. They stock according to the area the store is in.

Poppins2016 · 30/03/2021 22:40

I quite like Gap for basic tops etc.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 30/03/2021 22:44

John Lewis had a range of brands. Phase Eight is reasonable quality for the price, not everything though. I like Brastop for bras and swimwear. Tbh I haven't really bought many clothes in the last year.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 30/03/2021 22:44

Has not had

I agree - you need a large store for choice then you have to be selective.
AnnieSnap · 30/03/2021 23:24

I agree that there isn’t much inspiring in M&S these days. I am however, very impressed with their goodmove athletic wear.

SarahBellam · 31/03/2021 07:27

M&S is rubbish for ‘fashion’ but it can be beaten for thing like plain cotton and wool jumpers (I get mine in the men’s section), jeans and T shirts.

That said, at the start of the first lockdown I got some plain white loose fit cotton t shirts in H&M for about £4 and I have worn them almost every single day and they’re still going strong. They also did some crepe tops that are as comfortable at T-shirt’s but work well when you need to look more formal - for Zoom calls and suchlike.

M&S do fashionable shoes well. They make lovely lingerie.
They do good classics, but it's not for the fast fashion shopper.

The athletic wear is great.

The menswear is very good.
