Headbands/hairbands

I bought one of these today. One of the knotted hairband style that sit behind the ears. I'm late 30's. I quite like it on and with some nice earrings, I felt like I looked more interesting than I have in months. Was a change from a messy bun and huge roots!

But I'm not very confident in trying new looks and I'm worried I look like a wannabe teenager.

Does anyone else wear these at almost 40??

i used to, but i'm an avid sunglasses wearer, so hair band, sunglasses and mask is too much for my ears to take at the moment Grin
If you like it then go for it!

I wear one sometimes when my hair is its normal short cut. I'm mid 50s. I'm aiming for the Siobhan McSweeney look (although I assume she's much younger than I am).

I wore one the other day because it's now shoulder length and looks bloody awful and I just wanted it out of the way.

bellabride · 28/03/2021 10:47

I wear them at 57, and work in a care home where a few of the ladies in their nineties are wearing them ( no hairdresser been in for a while).
We all look great!

LegendDairy · 28/03/2021 10:53

I love headscarves and turbans but my hair is so fine it slips off after half a dozen head turns. No matter how many pins or cans of hairspray I use they don't stay on.

Purplecatshopaholic · 28/03/2021 10:57

I have a few now, thanks to lockdown. Would never have considered them before but they can look really good as well as being really practical. I’m late 40s, with longer hair by the day, lol.

goldielockdown2 · 28/03/2021 11:16

There's rarely a day goes by when I don't wear one
They're just accessories don't overthink it!

headsallovertheplace · 28/03/2021 12:28

Thanks everyone. My hair is quite long now and I think I'll feel better wearing these once it's had a decent chop, but I'm going to stick with them.

Any suggestions for where to buy? The one I bought yesterday was just from Tesco.

Just bought a white broderie hairband £4 from River Island to cover my greying roots which show when I have to tie back my hair for work eek!!

I'm 44. My highlights appointment is on 2nd May. Can not wait.

StCharlotte · 28/03/2021 12:32

I bought mine from Amazon I'm afraid.

LegendDairy I'd love it if turbans were more mainstream - my best look is the post hairwash towel turban. I look fabulous Grin

PrimeraVez · 28/03/2021 13:30

I always see others wear them and think they look great, then buy them for myself and chicken out of wearing them out the house!

goldielockdown2 · 28/03/2021 14:21

I get mine from Anthropologie, H&M, Accessorize, &otherstories, Asos and Primark

goldielockdown2 · 28/03/2021 14:22

Oh and Joules and Urban Outfitters.
I didn't realise until now just how many I have...

parrotonmyshoulder · 28/03/2021 14:41

Can someone please post a picture of the kind of thing you mean? Sounds like it might help me through my awful lockdown non-style.

likeamillpond · 28/03/2021 14:49

Watching with interest.
I want something to hide my roots until Hairdresser Day comes around
I already have loads of hats on standby.
Hairbands, thick ones, could work Hmm

headsallovertheplace · 28/03/2021 18:52

@parrotonmyshoulder

The one I bought is slim like this. I have quite fine hair, and was just trying out the look, so didn't want anything too chunky

Thanks for the suggestions!

I'm 37 and regularly wear one. It helps hide my fly away bits at the front so makes me look a bit more polished.

Lululu22 · 28/03/2021 19:01

Do you all wear them as in the pic the OP posted, with hair pulled out rather than all pushed back?

middleager · 28/03/2021 19:03

I'm 48 and wear one!
I've been doing Curly Girl. And my 'role model' is the lead singer in Deacon Blue, who wears what she wants!

parrotonmyshoulder · 28/03/2021 19:11

Thanks. I’ve ordered one from Etsy to try.

dividedwefall · 28/03/2021 19:18

I have tried them but I have thick wavy hair and presumably a big/funny shaped head. They start off in the right place but gradually sort of ease themselves off my head. I would love to wear them and wish I was brave enough to wear the Gucci turban headbands. Very 60s glam.

headsallovertheplace · 28/03/2021 19:31

Oh, loads on Etsy that I like the look of!
