Pixi Disappointment!

LopsidedWombat · 27/03/2021 23:48

I'm sorry but I'd like to have a moan Grin So I rarely venture outside of a handful of tried and tested skincare brands that I've used for years but recently placed a substantial order on the Pixi website after seeing so many positive mentions online and not just from beautiful people in their 20s. I got rose caviar essence, glow tonic, milky mist and jasmine retinol cleanser and as a free gift I selected vitamin c caviar balm.

On a positive note, the cleanser does leave my skin wonderfully smooth. But that's the only positive I can muster. The other products all leave my skin feeling sticky and uncomfortable, like I'm wearing a face mask. This is my first time experiencing this, I can literally feel it sitting on my face! I've tried them together and individually, mixed in with my usual routine and yes, sadly they all do this. The glow tonic also makes my face itch and break out in tiny bumps which I'm guessing is the fragrance as my usual glycolic acid is double the strength. And speaking of the fragrance, it all seems to smell quite strongly and parfum seems to be in everything.

I'm so annoyed at myself for getting sucked into Internet hype, especially as I don't think I'll be able to use these up so as to not be wasteful! If I'd stopped to read the ingredients I'd have seen the fragrance clearly listed but no, I was swept up in the hype. Oh well, lesson learnt. Has anyone else here had this experience with Pixi?

I bought the caffeine eye mask things
Don't bother Hmm

ChocAuVin · 28/03/2021 00:38

Yeah; I’ve never liked any Pixi product I’ve tried yet.

LopsidedWombat · 28/03/2021 02:03

I definitely won't bother with anything else! I'm wondering if everyone I saw praising it was paid to or if its just down to luck and my skin simply doesn't agree with it. The Ordinary is another one that I fancied trying after seeing so many good reviews but not sure I'll bother after the Pixi let down.

I love Glow Tonic but every other Pixi product I have tried has been disappointing.

Try the Aldi dupes only 2.99 before a big spend on the real thing sorry you wasted ££££

Blondie1984 · 28/03/2021 04:10

I use Alpha H - saw it on QVC and decided to try it as you can send it back and get your money back if you try it and don’t like it. Liquid Gold is fab

PatchworkElmer · 28/03/2021 04:30

I love the mud mask- haven’t tried anything else.

PandaFluff · 28/03/2021 08:02

I didn't get on with the glow tonic it irritated my skin

SparklingLime · 28/03/2021 08:08

Return them, explaining your issues with them.

I just got a sample of this with a Cult Beauty order and it left my skin absolutely glowing!

Just checked them on Trustpilot and it seems their customer service is appalling, so may be cut your losses.
Chica1990 · 28/03/2021 08:43

I like the mud cleanser, it really seems to clean my skin. I’m using the sacylic acid toner which I’m don’t think is really doing anything tbh

Yep. Was disappointed by pixi. Love the aldi one and cruelty free.
LivingDeadGirlUK · 28/03/2021 10:59

The eyeliner I got as a gwp makes me look like a panda in hours :/

PrimeraVez · 28/03/2021 13:31

I love Pixi Glow and the Shower Steam Facial thingy as well! Just goes to show that when it comes to skincare, we are all so different.

ILikeTheWineNotTheLabel · 28/03/2021 14:57

Have learned the hard way always to start off trying just one products rather than a range from the same brand. Sipping a tow in less likely to lead to buyer’s remorse.

With Pixi, I really liked the Retinol Tonic and repurchased a few times. They used to do a hydrating sheet mask that was nice too. And they did a sparkly lipgloss called Lip Icing that he some very pretty colours that I got a lot and bought a few of my favourite colourway a when it was discontinued.

I’ve tried a few other things of theirs, including make-up, and I’ve never had anything bad from them. Few nice enough but meh and a few nice enough but not really for me things. The main problem is they started up and discontinue things a lot, so if you do like something it often disappears.

LopsidedWombat · 28/03/2021 17:07

@ILikeTheWineNotTheLabel I actually thought I was playing it reasonably safe by buying across their ranges! I'm not surprised to hear they discontinue stuff as I was surprised by just how many items they have available!

The brands I usually use are Green People, PHB and with a couple of Paula's Choice items thrown in which are all roughly the same price as the Pixi products yet feel so much more... Luxurious? Will stick with what I know, just fancied trying some new products!

I tend to stick to similar types of brands as you- cruelty free, organic/natural-ish with some more technical ingredients driven type things .So Pixi was a bit of a departure for me, bit more sparkly/trend driven but still cruelty free.

Pixi used to have a display in both my nearest M&Ss back when you could go to shops, so it was easy to try before buying.

Given the types of brands you do like have you tried these:
Nourish London- they so good sample size kits
Garden of Wisdom- very single ingredient, but like the Ordinary but much better
Ere Perez- some nice skin care and lovely colours in their make up
Antipodes- New Zealand skincare people who use lots of Manuka Honey
Mad Hippie- some good vitamin serums

LopsidedWombat · 31/03/2021 10:12

@ILikeTheWineNotTheLabel oo, thank you for the recommendations, I will definitely have a look at those! I find with those sorts of brands the worst case scenario is that the product doesn't have noticeable long term benefits like you hope (such as minimising fine lines or whatnot) but they're generally all lovely to use so you don't feel like you wasted money unlike with my Pixi incident Blush
