Looking for appropriate brands for a hoodie...

@YellowandGreenToBeSeen

Grin at Gucci, Monclear (if not on a mountain), Canada Goose being ‘posh’. They are the exact opposite. They’re the 2021 equivalent of Burberry in the 90’s. Posh don’t need to shout its presence.

Posh boys I know wear unbranded, hand me downs, nicked off their mates etc. If it is branded, it’s high end outdoor wear such as Rab, or Icebreaker.

I'd agree with this, and I did smile at Stone Island, which is up there with Burberry in terms of absolutely not being posh.

I'd go with a decent outdoor clothing brand as opposed to 'fashion' brand

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 28/03/2021 10:41

My 17 year old isn't posh but he wouldn't be seen dead in sports clothes. He likes ralph Lauren shirts, unbranded jeans, primark basics etc
He is really stylish!

megletthesecond · 28/03/2021 10:45

Our drug dealers wear mostly black Nike, north face, "Armani" EA7 and "Gucci".

You're probably safe with Patagonia.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 28/03/2021 11:12

I'm interested by these 16 year olds who won't wear brands -where do they shop? As everything is technically branded, do you just mean they are wearing clothes from supermarkets, so probably aren't really into clothes?

What if you're into clothes but aren't a muppet that wastes money on brands? A cotton top is a cotton top regardless of the brand.
Betty000 · 28/03/2021 11:20

The snobbery on this thread is shocking

sipsmith1 · 28/03/2021 11:23

It depends what type of person they are, my friends (early 20s) are very much country people so things like Schoffel, Beaufort and Blake, RM Williams and Barbour. None of them would be seen dead in Gucci or Stone Island

UntamedWisteria · 28/03/2021 11:29

I think Gucci and Stone Island - vintage not new - are a bit 2018.

UntamedWisteria · 28/03/2021 11:30

Patagonia not safe. DS wouldn't be seen dead in it.

I’d think it means nothing with an externally visible logo like Adidas/Nike, Jack Wills. Ralph Lauren or North Face or an identifiable pattern like Burberry.

Uniqlo, Zara, John Lewis, H&M, M&S or non-logo’d GAP would all be acceptable by that count, along with all the supermarkets.

Maybe they understand that your self worth shouldn't be determined by how easily you are swayed by marketing. The same marketing that tells you this cotton t shirt that cost £2 is marked up to £40 because someone put a heat transfer vinyl logo on it. And yes, my Dad was in marketing for clothing as a job.

So my sons aren't walking adverts for Nike or Superdry.

Huzzah. Absolutely spot on.
DietrichandDiMaggio · 28/03/2021 13:08

Ooh a few people took my question a bit personally. So, what you mean isn't non-branded, but nothing with obvious logos.
I don't agree that all cotton tops are equal though; a Primark t-shirt will never be the quality of a Carhartt one, but you can get great, well-cut ones from Uniqlo or Arket for a few pounds more, which look good and last well.

XingMing · 28/03/2021 13:25

Uniqlo, vintage, Scotch & Soda.

It’s a bloody pain in the proverbial trying to find unbranded clothing!

He won’t let me but him clothes , he buys a lot of second hand and whether they fit or not is irrelevant! I often ask him what style of homeless chic he is attempting, and given the uni haircut he was given by his room mate I’ve told him not to standstill outside a supermarket.

EasterIsComing · 28/03/2021 14:09

The conclusion I have come to after reading this thread is that by the teenage years they are very particular about their clothes so unless you take them shopping cash is king.
To be fair I wouldn’t be very impressed if someone bought me clothes and there is a high chance I might be offended by what others would think I would like.

UhtredRagnarson · 28/03/2021 14:16

My 15 year old wears jogging bottoms and t-shirts from sports direct and dunnes and steals a lot of his aunt’s stuff too.

UhtredRagnarson · 28/03/2021 14:17

He doesn’t give a shite about brands

BigBeachWales · 28/03/2021 14:22

Hera. Seem to be worn by all the posh boys round here... https://www.store-hera.com

PermanentTemporary · 28/03/2021 14:39

Thank you all so much and sorry I hadn't come back for a bit!

And sorry for posting in these terms. I suppose I knew it was a bit much but on MN I've got used to asking the unaskable questions...

It's my lovely nephew who is at boarding school which to me is pretty posh. I don't have a clue about clothes full stop but also would quite like to give him something his mum might not reach for (sorry sis).

My sons wear plain clothing (no logos) from places like ASOS and Boohoo. They have ASOS/Boohoo labels but it's not obvious where they are from.
They have the opposite opinion on shoes where it's obvious what model of Nike they are

RedGoldAndGreene · 28/03/2021 15:09

Their belts, bags and caps are also ones with obvious logos.

LaBellina · 28/03/2021 15:16

My brother loves Kenzo hoodies.
I see Stone Island mentioned a lot here.
Since when is that posh again?
No offense but in my circle it was always seen as a ‘hooligan brand’ Confused

saffire · 28/03/2021 15:19

'Posh' teens here wouldn't wear hoodies. It would be a jumper tied round the neck.

RedGoldAndGreene · 28/03/2021 15:25

My kids are/were at comps so some of the answers have surprised me. Stone Island (wasn't that popular 5 years ago?) Gucci, Moncler were worn by the flash kids at their school who wanted to advertise the price of their clothes.
