They're really not getting that hot any more😭.

Do I replace with GHDs? Or is there something better out there? I'm a student so can't afford Dyson!

Have you looked at having them repaired. There are loads of repairers on eBay as they have several known faults that are the most likely things to go wrong. I had some a few years ago that kept crackling and flickering on and off. I sent them off and they put a new flex on. It cost about £20

I searched Mumsnet the other day because my straighteners weren't working well and Cloud nine straighteners were recommended but another set KIPOZA were also getting good reviews (there's videos on YouTube too). The silver ones at the minute on Amazon are £21.49 with a further £2 off voucher so I thought for the sake of £19 I'd give them a go. I'm really impressed with them, you can adjust the temperature up to 230oC.

Watching this thread because my old faithful GHDs that I've had for 10 years are suddenly getting less hot.

Justdowhatyouweretold · 27/03/2021 22:16

Cloud 9 are amazing!

laughoutquiet · 27/03/2021 22:19

I had my GHDs for maybe 15 years. I just replaced them at Christmas with a new pair, lots of people said to get Cloud9s but I stuck with GHDs. I got a good deal from Look Fantastic. They also sent me a GHD shine spray, it's amazing stuff Smile.

If it ain't broke.... (fingers crossed).

bumbledeedum · 27/03/2021 22:32

100% cloud nine. My faithful GHD's broke about 2 years ago, replaced them with new GHD's and they were absolutely awful, scratchy, pulled my hair and didn't get as hot. They were so bad I sent them back.

Stumbled upon cloud nine and they've been fantastic ever since. I think the original designers of GHD left and started cloud nine if I remember correctly.

Moonflower12 · 27/03/2021 22:50

I can second Kipoza. I got some after reading good things on here. After having GHDs for at least 15years I am converted.

lunalucie · 27/03/2021 22:58

I have the Remington Hydraluxe steam hair straighteners and they are amazing. I wanted the L'Oréal steam pods but couldn't justify the price and these were on offer so I gave them a go.

trunumber · 27/03/2021 23:17

How long have you had them? I would contact gHD in the first instance to see if they will repair or replace

It’s doubtful GHD will help - they only repair/replace items that are up to a year old. They won’t even let you pay for a repair, they will just refuse to accept it according to their faqs

I have the new ghd gold and like them, I’m not blown away though. I think my hair dryer makes the bigger difference

Girlintheframe · 28/03/2021 07:15

I got the cloud9 originals when my GHD died. Best thing for me is being able to control the temp (new GHDs might have that feature).

Me too. 15 year old GHDs stopped getting properly hot a couple of years ago. Replaced them with cloud 9s, I'm never going back to GHD!
justawoman · 28/03/2021 07:48

Sorry for massive link, not sure why that happened!

Chica1990 · 28/03/2021 08:42

GHDs aren’t what they used to be imo, my last set broke after 2 years! I got some cloud nines and looove them. They’re created by one of the previous ghd owners I believe.

namechangedyetagain · 28/03/2021 09:11

Yes i think mine can't be more than 5 years old. Being a poor student ive gone for the kipoza ones upthread has to be worth a go for that money. Even if they only last until I have a job again and then I think I'll give cloud 9 a go.

Thank you so much Smile
