New handbag.... Mulberry or something else?

I've just received a bonus from work and am delighted! I've saved most of it, but now have enough to splash the cash on a fancy new handbag.

But what to buy?! Budget.... anything really, but I suppose comfortably up to £1,000 if it's truly wonderful.

I usually spend less than £100 on bags, most under £50 tbh.

Currently daily bag is an under the arm job, and carries small laptop, hairbrush, A4 notepad, keys, glasses, water bottle, kids snack etc. Zips up so quite big.

A big bag would get used daily for commuting to the office, always with a small laptop

A small bag would be mostly evenings and weekends, prefer cross body bags, holds keys, phone abs maybe a snack Smile.

What's your coveted luxury handbag please? I don't know where to start!

I have the Mulberry Lily in clay that I use in the day and evenings. I also have the quilted Darley in black which is just a bit smaller than the Lily that I use mainly of an evening.
For work I use my Bayswater in the winter and swap to the LV Neverfull in Damier Azur in the summer. I like the lightness of the Neverfull so might get a more winter colour in the future.

Longchamp or Moschino.

I love celine the belt bag is lovely but I get a lot of use out of the cabas phantom, being able to throw stuff in makes it a win for work and casual.

One of my favourite every bags is the Burberry belt - again love that I can chuck everything in and it’s surprisingly cavernous.

For cross body I always go back to Gucci. The marmont shoulder bag is a great size and very light and the Dionysus shoulder bag also gets a lot of compliments (is heavier though).

Another vote for Aspinal - their bags are lovely. I have a large Lottie in quilted leather for going out. Their London totes are gorgeous and I plan on getting one if I ever go back in the office enough to justify it!

RunnerDown · 27/03/2021 23:35

I love a mulberry lily but definitely a going out bag. Mulberry have just brought back the Alexa which is a great all rounder.
When I first bought mulberry I got a used Bayswater. It was a beautiful bag but way too big. I am 5 ft4 and thought it looked silly on me. Might be better if you are taller.
I think the new iris bag is beautiful . I have a belted Bayswater satchel which I like but the iris is nicer

@GreenGarden22

I'm going to have a look at pre-loved bag sites - any recommendations on which sites have a good reputation? I love a bargain!
I recommend one earlier in your thread OP . Labels Most Wanted is also a great site. owner by a Mulberry expert .

Re aspinal bags I have a Marylebone tech which I love but it is sooooo heavy. Same with the Alexa actually.

Outlier in that I don't really adore handbags. BUT, of all the handbags I have ever seen, the only one I'd mortgage my first born for is the Loewe puzzle bag. Sadly firstborn is now 21 and could despatch me faster than I could him. I've never decided which colour I'd like best.

XingMing · 28/03/2021 18:24

If you are confident to shop overseas, I recommend Paula's choice. It's a reseller site in Pennsylvania, and is very good at classic bags. You may find yourself paying duty and tax for importing. I have two Lambertson Truex bags that I bought for about £90 each. They cost north of £000 new.

AprilLady · 28/03/2021 18:26

@XingMing, snap, I’m also not a huge bag fan, but love the look of the Loewe puzzle bag. I can’t find a way to justify the spend though...

Alsohuman · 28/03/2021 19:19

Good thing we’re all different. Those puzzle bags look like cheap jobs made of off cuts to me.

MargosKaftan · 28/03/2021 19:35

I love the puzzle as well. But I couldn't justify £2k on a bag. I think £1k is my absolute limit, and my normal point is around £500. But its gorgeous and very "me". One for the lottery win list.

@XingMing have you got a link for Paula's choice. All I keep getting is the skincare!

It's slightly over your budget, but if I was buying a new Mulberry I'd get this one. I think with the Anthony bag, you have to be quite slim else it's not a flattering bag for everyone. I second the suggestion of looking on NPN bags.

Verite1 · 28/03/2021 21:06

I have several mulberry’s. I NEVER use my Bayswater as it is too heavy. I have a lily which I use on evenings but don’t like metal straps during the day. I have a gorgeous mulberry del ray which I use a lot but I don’t think they make it now. But my fave bags hands down are bottega veneta. Just check them out - they are absolutely beautiful. I always think they are bags for people who love bags as opposed to labels.

Love the Alexa! The oversize looks like a good daytime bag. I really need to be able to try them out as don't want anything too heavy.
