If you had the time and budget what would your routine be?

Just being nosey, how often people get their nails/lashes/facials etc done? Would you do more or go more often if you had the time or money? I've completely neglected myself over the last few years so although I have a decent at home skin care routine I don't do much in terms of salon treatments but my youngest is at nursery now so I have more time and am just thinking about what to start doing and how often. Obviously not right now but when normality resumes!

Also, assuming most people have had to completely stop any salon treatments is there anything you did regularly you will do less or not at all going forward? Anything you are desperate to have again?

I have this dream where I go for a weekly facial. I have terrible, terrible skin and would so love to do this. And have properly done nails and eyebrows at all times. But along with this fantasy, comes having an income and the free time to support it, so it's on with the ponds cold cream Wink

seensome · 24/03/2021 17:40

I only started going to get salon treatments when I was 38 when my youngest was in school and I found a job so I had a good excuse to start pampering myself more. I get my gel nails done every 2-3 weeks, lash lift every 8 weeks, I tried extensions but the 2 weekly upkeep and cost got too much, I prefer to have nice nails.
Pedicure I'll treat myself probably 3 times a year.
Botox twice a year, have my lips filled once a year.
My hair every 3 months.
Can't wait for the salons to open again.

KitchenFairy · 24/03/2021 18:12

Pre covid I regularly had my hair coloured and cut every 8 or so weeks, eyebrows every 4 weeks, lashes every 2-3 weeks, nails (feet too in the summer) fortnightly, and waxing done every 4-5 weeks.

The only thing I'm not that bothered about re-starting is my lashes. I can't wait to get my hair and waxing done, they'll be the first things I'll book as soon as salons are open again.

Inthefuture · 24/03/2021 18:19

If I could have someone come to the house to do the treatments I would have it all but the upkeep and the appointments are a pain so I would just do it for special occasions now (not many of them on the horizon.)

Ragwort · 24/03/2021 18:24

I would love to have a weekly wash and blow dry (is that old fashioned ?Confused), as it is I only go to the hairdressers twice a year; and a monthly pedicure and facial ... if money really no object a twice yearly trip to an overnight Spa would be lovely - used to do that with my DM years ago - happy memories.

JonSnowedUnder · 24/03/2021 18:57

Thanks for the suggestions so far - interesting @KitchenFairy you say you're not so bothered about lashes!

When people are talking about facials what sort of facials are we talking because I've has a few but they seemed to be mainly relaxing but not really doing anything I couldn't do at home. Plus I always snooze during them and snore! I did get a course of microdermabrasion years ago but I can't say it did much (possibly I didn't actually need it 10 years ago and pre-children!). I've heard good things about CACI but I don't know how often you need to commit to see results.

@Inthefuture I've looked for people who come to you but have never found anyone good in my area. That would be amazing though if you could have someone pop round and do a few things at the same time.

@JonSnowedUnder I started getting quite natural looking lash extensions for thicker fuller lashes, but I think they damaged my natural lashes and I’ve ended up in a vicious circle. Having the break (and brushing castor oil through my lashes at night) has given them a good chance to recover and I don’t want to wreck them again.

floofycroissant · 24/03/2021 21:07

The only treatment I had that regularly got me compliments was a lash tint and lift. So many people noticed.

I'd get lashes and brows, pedicure and nails and waxes done regularly. I'd love to improve my skin but honestly wouldn't know where to start, I found microdermabrasion way to harsh and facials super greasy.

Ooh, I got a pamper package for my 40th birthday and I redeemed it just before a girls holiday abroad. It included shellac nails and toes, brows tinted and waxed, spray tan and lashes applied.

I felt a million dollars especially as I'd lost weight for the trip. I'd have that package every month I think. Toes less often as they seem to last ages on me.

I've had Botox a couple of times so I'd ideally get it twice a year. Maybe three times to my elevens.

Hair, I'm lucky I still have my natural blonde colour and I've never had to dye it so I just get it cut four or five times a year.

JaceLancs · 24/03/2021 22:48

I came to the conclusion a few years ago that spending money on things that work for me shouldn’t be scrimped on!
I have my hair cut and roots done every 6 weeks with a full head colour 2-3 times a year
Gel polish every 3-4 weeks
Eyebrow wax every 6-8 weeks
Lash tint and permanent curl 3-4 times a year eg Xmas and holidays
I enjoy facials etc - but only occasionally as part of a spa package
I don’t wear make up - or have an expensive beauty at home regime (soap n water plus e45) so it balances out
I have a £25 a month gym/pool/classes membership and try to keep to an ok diet
My financial weaknesses mainly involve clothes and jewellery

I always have my acrylic nails done and my eyebrows waxed once a fortnight. That's all I have done. Don't want to do anything else. Every fortnight is the right amount of time between appointments so nothing needs to change at all. I will continue to do the same after the lockdown. My lady contacted me the other day to ask if I wanted an appointment when she is back at work in a few weeks, so it's booked in. Can't wait.

WhereAreWeNow · 27/03/2021 06:40

I'm not sure I'd change anything. Not because I'm so satisfied with how I look but because life's too short and I wouldn't want to spend anymore time or money than I do on how I look. I guess getting my hair coloured professionally would be an improvement.

Karcheer · 27/03/2021 09:24

When I was younger (20s). I used to have my hair highlighted cut every 6-8 weeks. I'd have monthly facials, massages, eye brow tidy and pedicures. I'd have my nails done every other week and everything waxed every 6 weeks.

I really wish I could get back into this as I always looked good and wasn't a mad panic to shave my legs or paint nails in the car if I wanted to go out!
