Does anyone have any ideas about what to wear. I am an old goth who keeps up an interest and so know many of the online sites anyway, and obviously google is my friend Smile. I need something for the Whitby Steampunk weekend in July, so I'm partly thinking I don't want it to be horribly sweaty (so much stuff is polyester) but also wondering if I just need an pagoda umbrella. I don't like frills AT ALL which is a bit of a problem! Or lace.

How about something like this

Binglebong · 22/03/2021 18:46

Steampunk is really open - you do as much or as little as you like. There are no essentials so go with what you are comfortable in. Goth is a great start as there is loads of obvious crossover but it really us a case of whatever you like. Maybe more colour?

Lace up victorian/edwardian boots are a must.

I’m not a steampunk person so don’t know if this is way off the mark but I saw one girl at a comic festival dressed in steampunk style, but she had gone for sort of bloomers/breeches with high lace up boots and a waistcoat. The androgynous style of it made it so stand out to me.

I would really urge you not to spend a fortune until you knew it's right for you (it will be - steampunkers are lovely!). Charity shops should be open again soon so scour those, make a few bits maybe and use what you have. Above all have fun!

Welcome to the madness.

Berolloreb · 24/03/2021 13:27

Oh yes, I know it would be really silly to spend a lot....but I do like to be entirely happy with what I'm wearing.....and I've already sort of promised myself a corset!

Ah well I'm a sucker for corsets myself so I understand. Perhaps go for one you could use elsewhere so not totally steampunk but can be dressed up as SP when you want?

Binglebong · 26/03/2021 21:52

Thought you might like to know Corset story have a sale on their clearance- 3 for £60 although limited sizes.
