Clothes like a judo suit?

GarnOut · 22/03/2021 00:09

One of the outfits that suits me most is my judo suit. I’m 5’, hour glass size 12. Can anyone think of how I could replicate a version of this look in everyday life? Some of the brands that seem to have something on the lines I’m after such as Gudrun Sjoden seem to be for much taller, leaner women than me. I would love something with clean, simple lines, belted at the waist and preferably with dropped shoulders and some trousers that are like my judo ones. Any ideas/recommendations would be very much appreciated.

Wow thanks everyone. I didn’t expect to get any replies to such a weird post. I love that Veterinari. That’s exactly the sort of thing I’m after. And it’s on sale and in my size! I’m going to order it. I love the jumpsuit Cungryhow but need a petite version as jumpsuit waists are usually in the wrong place. I do have a Lucy & yak sleeveless jumpsuit though that is perfect but it’s a rare thing to find in a non petite selection.

Love the jumpsuit but as per usual....how do you go the loo?

How loose is a judogi jacket meant to be? Sorry if I used the wrong term.

I ordered a 2nd hand one so I could see the construction and although it was listed as small adult size, it might be a small japanese adult size not a small british adult. The trousers are fine and the jacket ok butt not loose.

You may get lucky on Etsy:

I'm a similar build to you so watching closely!

ILoveShula · 31/03/2021 13:14

Mine came from Ebay. Much, much cheaper.

It looks about right fit-wise. There was no obi.

The trousers are pretty funky, I would add pockets if I was to copy them.

ILoveShula · 31/03/2021 17:30

kimono-style jacket

littlewhitestar · 31/03/2021 17:42

You could try googling jinbei. They are more house/lounge clothes than going outside clothes though. It would probably look better if you wore a different patterned top to the trousers rather than a matching set but they are the right style top and wide leg trousers/shorts.

Try Forgotten Tribes, they use some heavy fabrics in traditional styles

Mamahotfoot · 05/04/2021 20:48

I like One Hundred Stars for kimono style jackets onehundredstars.co.uk/collections/kimonos
Also like Kin @ John Lewis for shirt dresses or Masai for good quality basics including wrap jacket and simple trousers

Keep an eye on Toast. They do some Japanese style clothes that may work well for you. Eg I have a heavy weight cotton wrap jacket in a Japanese style that goes with everything plus wide cropped trousers. Wait for the summer sale though - it costs a fortune but I wear their clothes for years so it works out in the end.

GarnOut · 05/04/2021 21:50

I’ve not come across Forgotten Tribes Lifestooshort. I’ve ordered some barrel leg trousers and two tops and signed up for notifications of when 2 more trousers are back in stock. I’m not sure if they’re look will suit me but I am curious as I really like a lot on there.

IloveShula and Firmly. Both these kimono jackets are gorgeous. Thank you.

I will check out Jinbei which I’ve also never heard off.
Mamahotfoot. Some of the Masai jackets are great thanks. The kimonos are lovely but I want plain colours as patterns seem to look wrong on me.

Ah, I’ve just discovered Jinbei is a style not a company 🙈.

Ooh, love the Forgotten Tribes clothes.

JulesJules · 06/04/2021 10:23

I would have a look at Toast and
Kin (John Lewis) and for kimono inspired tops (though very floaty material, not the sturdy cotton/linen of judo wear) have a look at
One Hundred Stars

Hell Bunny have good clothes for an hourglass figure

AnotheChinHair · 06/04/2021 12:45

@GarnOut I'll be very interested to know how you're getting on with anything you order as I think I have a similar height/size to yours.
Anyone know what the quality of Forgotten Tribes is like?

GarnOut · 06/04/2021 13:48

The forgotten tribe order has already been posted off! I'll let you know what it's like and anything els e I get from the sites that have been recommended . The reviews seem to say forgotten tribes quality is good. I got a kimono style wrap shirt from cos but it's gone back as too long in the body for my 5' frame .

For anyone who was wondering about forgotten tribes my order came today. I love the v neck waterfall teeshirt. It drapes really nicely and is flattering with clean lines. It’s not a traditional waterfall cardigan which I’ve always thought were frumpy.

The trousers are great but too big. I got the medium as I have chunky thighs but they are very relaxed and the small would be much better even though I take a large 12 or 14 in most jeans/trousers etc.. the top Is ok but don’t think I’ll wear it much so will return. I’ve asked for an email about two more pairs of trousers that are out of stock at the moment. Generally though I’m impressed and they’re on my list of Japanese influence stuff. Quality is very good.
