Coach or Kate Spade

Just that really. Looking for a new everyday bag - just plain black that can be used for work, shopping, school run.

Seen a coach one and Kate Spade that are nice. Do you think they are pretty similar quality? Thanks

I would go for Coach over Kate Spade as I think they are generally better bags but it might depend on the specific bags you are looking at.

I'd also go for Coach. I've never had a Kate Spade but the Coach bags I've had have always been lovely quality.

I've got a lovely Kate Spade. Black, roomy, simply stylish and perfect for every day.

But I'll be honest, the handles haven't worn well. The rest of it is pristine.

Thanks everyone, I have a Coach bag and it’s great quality, don’t know much about Kate Spade. Will post a pics of them both but think I’ll go for the Coach one.

I'd go KS - two reasons:

  1. Coach bags, while lovely, are everywhere now, and I wouldn't buy one again as they're so common
  1. Of those two bags, the KS is much more elegant - the simple shape is lovely.

In terms of quality they're very similar.

I prefer Kate Spade. Coach are all the rage in the US.

I have a Kate Spade that wearing well.

I view Coach as less "fashionable" than Kate Spade, if you care about that sort of thing.

Don't Coach do one that's almost identical to the KS one? I'm sure they used to as I had a green one. That would kill two birds with one stone!

Is the coach one the prairie satchel? I have one in oxblood and it's a great size and weight for everyday. My only gripe is that the gold fixtures are looking a bit coppery where they rub against each other.

Out of the two I much prefer the Kate Spade. Have bags from both and I’m a bigger fan of KS.

Quoting myself here - I've just checked and The current Shay bag from Coach comes in black and is very similar.

I have both. No complaints with either. I'd say the quality is similar but my coach bags weigh a bit more than my Kate Spade which is something to bear in mind if you're going to be carrying it around all day. The weight issue has totally put me off Marc Jacobs. They're far too heavy even when empty.

I’ve only had a coach, didn’t find the quality to be good at all, I’ve had much cheaper bags that stayed looking good for longer. Agree also that they are ubiquitous.

Go for coach I have had so many problems with Kate spade customer service - the bag arrived damaged and having to chase a refund 3 weeks later... I'd avoid them. It wasn't even packaged properly.

Coach for me, I've got quite a few and they are great quality. I've had one Kate Spade and the handle broke after less than a year

I have a few coach bags (don't buy them from their outlet as one of their salespeople actually told me they are basically shit)... all great and have worn well.

I have had 2-3 KS bags and they never last. I also had a necklace from them which broke. Love their designs though...

Definitely Coach. Timeless classic and excellent quality.
Kate Spade are more "fashion" and there's no comparison in quality.

Blimey, I actually thought the one on the left WAS the Coach that pps are referring to. (Sutton Hobo) I wonder who copied who Grin
I love the Sutton Hobo and would have one in every colour. Don't buy full price though, their sales are fabulous.

Is the KS bag just a single press stud/snap fastener to close it? That has put me off many a lovely bag. I always think it’s too easy for someone to stick their hand in, much prefer a zip fastening.

In terms of both, I have a small coach bag I’ve had for 10+ years which has lasted very well, and a Kate Spade bag for work that lasted well for about 5 years but with very heavy daily use which I consider a decent result for the price.
