Anyone tried Stitch Fix?

I'm 5 months post c-section after DC2 and needing some new clothes ideally with some styling help!
Have come across Stitch Fix and wondering if anyone has used them?
What did you think of the clothes they sent you according to your stated preferences and sizes?
Really curious to hear your thoughts before I go ahead and try it!
Thanks 😊

I was going to and then read some reviews (that mostly seemed to be American) and said the quality was awful as it was their own brand stuff. I'd assumed it was branded stuff.

Lentilbaby · 21/03/2021 17:33

Oh that's interesting. I didn't realise they had their own brand clothes too.

I did it a few times a while back and got a few good things but some the stylist sent something I said I hated.

Just tried it again and most was from a brand I'd never heard of so assume that's their own brand. I won't be using them again

DarlingCoffee · 21/03/2021 17:55

I like them, but I think it does take a few goes before they get to know your taste and it’s important to give them plenty of feedback and precise wish lists eg I would like a hoodie in my next box. Also, I have found that the better the budget you have the better quality the clothes. For me I hate shopping and the service just suits me as I like having clothes sent to me to try with my current things and returns are super easy. I’ve also bought things from them I might not usually try which is a bonus. If you want to give them a go I’m happy to PM you a code for £15 off.

Candleabra · 21/03/2021 18:00

I've had some nice things but I've found you have to be very specific about what you want (or don't want).

Lentilbaby · 21/03/2021 18:07

Thanks everyone. By the sound of it, it's worth a try. I usually enjoy shopping but with a baby and lockdown it's difficult.
I do lots of Zoom calls for work and am running out of smartish tops. I have plenty of nice ones that don't fit me at the moment
@DarlingCoffee that would be fab. Thanks so much Thanks

I had a code for one free style selection so I tried it. Sent all of it back - most was their own brand stuff, which I felt was overpriced, and there was also a hideous nylon blouse from Mango. To be fair they offered me another free go, but I didn’t like their recommendations. So it was disappointing and not for me, but I can imagine if you didn’t have time to shop, or hated shopping it could be useful.

polexiaaphrodesia · 22/03/2021 21:38

I ordered my box yesterday and they sent me a "preview" of 10 items to pick 5 from so clearly truing to cut down on returns. Everything was unbelievably frumpy and baggy so I've said no to everything and emailed to ask for a refund.

BlingLoving · 23/03/2021 10:33

I never look at what they're sending in advance because at least two of my all time favourite items from them I absolutely would not have chosen until I was forced to try them on because they were there in my bedroom.

WhyNotToday · 23/03/2021 14:38

Interested in this thread - watching to see if there are any other experiences.

ThatOtherPoster · 23/03/2021 14:47

I almost tried it... I booked my first one and got sent the preview. The clothes were really “me” - but SO me that I actually owned almost exactly the same styles already! There was a nice skirt if have liked too, and a lovely jumper, but I realised the whole box (of 5 things) would be around £300 and there’s no way I should spend that on clothes at the moment!

So I cancelled it. I knew I’d love it all when it came and then justify spending money... So I nuked it before I could get too tempted.

The clothes were nice though. That jumper was amazing, but it was also £95. Eek.

I have had my next style fix preview - they half listened to my please do not send anything that would look good as curtains on heartbeat comment, ignored my conscious of my stomach comment and ignored my no pastel coloured clothes so I've kept two items and asked for three more to be reshuffled

ScarfaceCwaw · 25/03/2021 08:47

I tried it and found it bland, limited, and safe. I have distinctive taste but I also like to be challenged and try different things. What they sent fitted well but I could easily have done better myself. They seem to pull from a very limited range of brands and when I requested to try a couple of current trends e.g. big collars, they said they couldn't send anything like that. Really, it's all over the high street and you can't source a single one? Whatever.

The only thing they sent me that I liked was an awesome asymmetric wool coat from All Saints, but I sent it back because I have precisely nowhere to wear an asymmetric £300 wool coat right now.

I think it would be a good choice if you feel you've really lost your style or struggle to put an outfit together, or to get some new ideas if you're bored. But it's otherwise quite limited.

IllNeverLetGoJack · 25/03/2021 08:53

Lots of people seem to have had success with it on here. Like a pp, I read reviews online and they weren't good at all, so have avoided.

I actually like shopping for myself, so, like you, I'd only be doing it if they could find me something which really complimented my shape and style.

I might do a personal shop session in person somewhere instead, when we can obviously, as I don't trust someone who has never seen me in person to get it right and I don't think 5 different items in one size is enough to get the correct fit. I'm a bit sick of online shopping for this reason. I bought some trousers recently and had to buy three different sizes before I found the right fit.

I also don't understand the pricing. A friend got a Lookiero box and was telling me the prices of some things. Without the 25% discount, they didn't seem to be value for money really. She didn't keep much of her boxes. She also said it took a long time for rmher returns to register with Lookiero. So a bit faffy considering she only get a couple of things out of 15 she got. Some things she didn't even try on, just looked at them and thought "no".

So, all in all, worth a try, but be fussy would be my advice. Don't keep stuff just because they send it iyswim. They probably aren't giving you a totally bespoke or insightful styling session. I think the temptation is to think, "oh they sent it, so this will suit me", when actually, they've never met you before, so it's about as good as buying random stuff in your size online.

I did all the questionnaire stuff hoping at some point I'd see what sort of cost the items would be, but no clue. I don't understand how I'd ask them to send me a bunch of stuff that could cost pretty much anything!

There are cost questions in the questionnaire, aren't there? You get the opportunity to set parameters for how much you would like to pay for a jumper/top/coat etc.
booksandwool · 25/03/2021 09:42

Yes but as I remember the price ranges you could choose from were quite broad - and a box all at the top end of the ranges would cost twice as much as one from the bottom end - cynically I guessed they'd go for the higher end. Maybe I've remembered wrong.

hopeishere · 25/03/2021 13:12

I've actually signed up. They sent a preview and I kept two things. So will be interesting to see what arrives!

Cluckycluck · 25/03/2021 13:34

I signed up the other day. Delivery is due 3rd April but I had a preview of 10 items this morning and didn't like anything 😬 I've given loads of information on what I like so hopefully I might end up with something I like but I'm not feeling too hopeful at the moment.

Reinventinganna · 27/03/2021 14:05

Do they do petite sizes?
And is it easy to cancel?

I’m definitely tempted as I am having a slight style crisis after putting on weight/lockdown (wearing uniform or pjs but nothing else).

FourTurnings · 27/03/2021 19:09

I’ve had three ‘fixes’ and I absolutely love shopping like this. It’s fun. I get compliments on the items I wear and it’s meant I wear different brands.

willowsway · 27/03/2021 23:16

I've had a few stitch fix boxes, I kept a few things. Then I found they suddenly got very expensive. I agree with pp, their own brand stuff is really expensive. I've switched to lookiero which I absolutely love. Much better value. They send things I'd not have chosen myself, but look great on. I'm very detailed with what I like with the stylist though and feel that I'm listened to. I imagine it's all done by an algorithm, but it does feel personalised.

Tippytaps · 27/03/2021 23:20

My last two boxes had a couple of their own brand items and it’s really put me off, their own brand stuff is such horrible quality!

However, my stylist has chosen some clothes for me that I would not have picked out myself. I am on the fence and will see what my next box is like before deciding.

Warehouse1983 · 28/03/2021 18:46

Interesting re Lookiero. One question, when you take the initial survey and they ask you to tick the image showing how you like to dress on your days off, do you select the image showing how you'd really like to dress (nice jeans, blouse and leather jacket combo), or how you actually dress (lockdown trackies and jumper)?
