Shirts for casual wear to wear with jeans?

BurbageBrook · 20/03/2021 21:40

Looking for some wisdom on shirt style as in the past I've never worn causal shirts. But I'm turning 30 this year and I feel like my spring style maybe needs to mature a little? I keep seeing women styling jeans and flats with a simple shirt for casualwear and I love the look.

So if you're a shirt-wearer which shop would you recommend for this kind of thing? The style I can dress down with jeans easily? When shopping online I'm not really sure where's best and which ones look good and not too office-y for 'real life'.

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Just bought a few of these in different prints: www.seasaltcornwall.co.uk/clothing/shirts-blouses/larissa-organic-cotton-shirt-sketched-flowers-cuttlefish.htm
I've worn them to work with smart trousers but will also wear them with jeans.

Watching with interest. I tend to wear jeans with a hoody, but as the weather gets warmer, if I'm still working from home I'd like to wear more casual shirts. Partly wanting to look less like I threw on the nearest option, and partly because I'm in my 40s and should dress like it! And to be honest, when I do make an effort, I feel much better about what I'm wearing - it's just that balance between skinny and work wear that I struggle with.

I got one from M&S last year, but it took so long to trawl through the website, I don't think I can be bothered again. Roll on shops re-opening so we can at least browse!

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 20/03/2021 22:23

Just spotted a lovely one on toast website but 140 pricey for a casual shirt..

AmberItsACertainty · 20/03/2021 22:34

yourownpersonaljesus thanks for posting that link. I'm loving those.

Sézane is good for shirts and blouses if you’re into a boho type look.

Something like:
www.sezane.com/en/product/caro-shirt/navy-garden-print

www.sezane.com/en/product/kessy-shirt/check

www.sezane.com/en/product/maggie-shirt/denim-blue

With jeans or trousers would be a nice casual spring outfit. They’ve loads on their website.

I’d steer clear of places like Seasalt (sorry to the PP who suggested it) if you’re only turning 30.

AmberItsACertainty if you're a keyworker you can currently get 50% off at Seasalt.

Watching with interest as I am in my 40s and always a bit lost how to nicely style jeans. I agree to steer clear of Seasalt at your age - even now I would worry that some of their stuff can be a bit old fashioned (sorry PP)

Yourownpersonaljesus · 20/03/2021 22:56

No offence taken about Seasalt being for older women - I am much older than the OP!

RampantIvy · 20/03/2021 23:06

I really like the blue spotty Sesaalt one. I won't see 60 again, so I guess I can get away with wearing Seasalt Grin

Kittykatmacbill · 20/03/2021 23:24

Boden modern shirts.

notacooldad · 20/03/2021 23:26

Theres loads of nice shirts on SilkFred ( and dresses and tops and jumpsuits!!!) Its one of my go to sites.

EssexLioness · 20/03/2021 23:57

@notacooldad what is the quality lik at SilkFred please? I see a lot of ads for them on fb and love the look of their stuff but wasn’t sure if it was worth ordering from them or not

Crewtshirt · 21/03/2021 00:17

Have a look at esprit. I've got a few nice things from them recently. H&m can also be excellent for the odd gem but you really need to see it in store especially as i find sizing can be bonkers.

DianaT1969 · 21/03/2021 00:22

Silkfred is a marketplace. Lots of different stores and manufacturers. Quality and fit varies.

Oooh thanks for that!

I normally shop fairly high end but La Redoute has some good options on trend at the moment especially some Broderie Anglias and it's good quality.

Personally I don't think you can top an oversized blue striped shirt, jeans & ballet flats/brogues and M&S has some stripe options and crisp white options. Alternatively I rate Arket and Everlane.

As DianaT1969 They have lots of brands. I've always been happy with what I've had .
There's lots of choice.

AvantGardening · 21/03/2021 08:48

I’ve got a few from H&M that I wear with jeans, or shorts in the summer.

EssexLioness · 21/03/2021 08:57

Thanks @DianaT1969 and @notacooldad. Didn’t realise it was a marketplace. Good to know you’ve been happy with them. Will have to go and have a browse

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 21/03/2021 09:08

Good shout on La Redoute and Espirit, I like those simple styles, handy for some nice tshirts for under jackets and some nice shirts too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/03/2021 09:17

M&S used to do brilliant ones in a cotton/silk mix. I miss those shirts. Sigh.

1sunnyday23 · 21/03/2021 09:18

Fat face normally has good shirts too

Buckingafout · 21/03/2021 09:20

Anything that doesn't need ironing?

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 21/03/2021 09:21

Yes bucking!! That is why I rarely buy shirts tbh!!

Authenticchicken · 21/03/2021 09:24

I have several jersey blouses from Boden, which are so easy to wear but they don't have collars. Their modern shirt is popular, but I worry it would never get ironed.
