I've never been good with bags, I don't like designer, prefer brown leather, and don't fancy anything fussy or bling-y.

Would you class this as traditional, long lasting? It isn't silly money either, which doesn't always equate with quality, but....
.....I want it to last. I don't buy things often so am prepared to spend when I do (just not willing to part with over 200 for a bag)

more info - I WFH and don't lead a very hectic lifestyle, just want something decent and good quality that will last me years.

Bag is from Plumo.

It would be ok for summer use, but I think it would get a battered look pretty quick, it is very casual.

PolaDeVeboise · 17/03/2021 19:15

It's ok, but the shape is quite old fashioned IMO.

FirmlyRooted · 17/03/2021 19:16

I like it, it would go with most day to day outfits and colours. It is a great day bag.

takethedeviledeggs · 17/03/2021 19:16

I'm not keen. If you like brown leather, have you looked at Scaramanga?

WeirdArchitecture · 17/03/2021 19:17

thanks, I can see what you mean.
I already have a Coach bag, an Edie holder bag, but I hate using it because I can't stand the short handles and it is so so stiff.

Do I need to just embrace my Edie and make use of it? It feels too conservative for my tastes, but I dunno.

Not keen to be honest. I think it’s old fashioned too.

TheVampiresWife · 17/03/2021 20:02

Agree that it's a bit old fashioned. Have a look at Mimi Berry - her bags are beautiful and last for years (I'm still using one that I've used regularly for almost ten years). There are some beautiful preloved ones on eBay at the moment if new is a bit of a stretch - they're about the same price as the one you linked to.

Notanotherhun · 17/03/2021 20:28

It's hideous. Not classic at all.

WeirdArchitecture · 17/03/2021 20:32

haha, thank you for the honest opinions! I perhaps am a touch old fashioned with some tastes, I like unfussy things, a bit plain when it comes to bags.

I didnt like the zipper part and that the cross pattern is only one the front. But I do love the colour and texture. Will check out the shops you've mentioned!

idontlikealdi · 17/03/2021 20:57

It's ok. That's all.

sweetnessnfight · 17/03/2021 21:03

A bit dull and a bit small. But if you really like it then get it

thecatfromjapan · 17/03/2021 21:20

It looks casual, bohemian and expensive to me. Woven leather bags are lovely.

I also think it will look better as it gets worn in.

That said, I'd be tempted to hunt in TK Maxx when it finally re-opens and gets more stock. Plumo is expensive and you do find lovely, bohemian-style, Spanish and Italian bags for far less money in T K Maxx.

But Plumo is great for things that have an individual, bohemian look.

I, personally, would love that bag. Sadly, I don't have the income for it.

thecatfromjapan · 17/03/2021 21:26

By the way, I doubt you'd wear it the way it's styled in the picture. It's a cross-body bag, with the option of wearing on the shoulder.

Worn by the lass in the picture, with a smart white shirt, it looks daft. It really is slightly boho. So you'd either wear it with your slightly alternative look, casually with jeans, or with a cool, black, angular outfit to give you a softer, boho edge.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 17/03/2021 21:27

I really like it too, but I don't think it would last for years if you were using it lots.

Ah! I love cats and I love Japan, I wonder now if we have a similar sort of taste? What you describe about the bag is very much the reason I like it, although I am not 100% convinced. Ive had some rotten experiences with bag quality. I once paid the same for something at Massimo Dutti and it was dreadful. Compared to designer bags this is pretty cheap. But I can't stand them.

I can afford to buy a few nice things every year or two, although I have to be cautious because expect it to last. Im not in the business of replacing things each season, so I end up procrastinating until it's out of stock!

Interesting, I actually love it styled with the shirt! I guess this is where we are all different, I'm possibly a bit eccentric Grin - I'd like to describe me as 'bohemian-minimal' but I'm not even sure this is possible!

out of interest, I'd love to know what you'd consider 'smart-casual' in a bag? I have a Coach Edie in tan and feel it is too stiff and conservative. Perhaps I'm not giving it a chance. handles are too short for my liking, I really love the option to wear across body.

I spend 80% of my non-covid time in hiking gear and with a rucksack so this is smart for me!

It reminds me of something you would buy from a market stall in Mallorca. Only you know if that's the look you're going for or not!

friskybivalves · 18/03/2021 06:34

I like the woven look very much. Quite bottega veneta-ish without the price tag to match. Might be worth you looking at pre loved bottega to check out their styles too? But I certainly wouldn't say this one is gopping!

dividedwefall · 18/03/2021 12:30

I really don't like it. It looks very 1990/2000s.

That style of short strap shoulder bag just looks dated IMHO. If you had said 'Look what I found at the back of my wardrobe' I wouldn't have been surprised.

dividedwefall · 18/03/2021 12:32

lol @ gopping. @SummaLuvin

Not wrong though.

dontgobaconmyheart · 18/03/2021 19:49

I don't love it, it looks a bit summer holiday market stall or charity shop chic (nowt wrong with either but it isn't what I go for in a bag).

I feel your pain though OP I'm fussy with bags, just want one bag, it last years and stay looking good, be big enough, comfortable to sling on, look good with everything I own, and be very affordable but look far more expensive. Not too much to ask is it Wink

CambsAlways · 18/03/2021 20:23

Sorry I don’t like it at all

CeeceeBloomingdale · 18/03/2021 20:32

I love woven leather and boho style but the shape isn't quite right for me. There are sometimes similar in TK Maxx as suggested by a pp. I am also coveting most of the woven leather bags on the Liberty website www.libertylondon.com/uk/Pom-Pom-Double-Jump-Woven-Leather-Cross-Body-Bag-R283634006.html?istCompanyId=53594fab-416e-42ab-b3ca-8816d2013fe8&istFeedId=6894997c-21a2-4de5-ad8c-4f4c2b36367d&istItemId=irirwrawm&istBid=t&gclid=CjwKCAjw9MuCBhBUEiwAbDZ-7njJDMxmRr0TyQY-GsE4iD1vrrxxbtLl42kZ5b4kiFd3CxmD-QKl6hoCopYQAvD_BwE
