I'm mid forties and starting to notice myself being invisible to people in the street, or the shops or whatnot. I went out today and was wearing a bright yellow coat and still some (younger) people didn't seem to notice me waiting for them to pass (or is it just bad manners that I'm noticing?)
I've noticed that some older women go all out with quite wacky clothing (bright colours, embellishments etc) or make up which is partly an expression of individuality but perhaps also partly to offset the sense of becoming invisible as an older woman in our society. I find if I wear plain, 'classic' clothing, I blend even further into the scenery.
Conversely I'm sure many women quite like being invisible over catcalling and unwanted male attention. It's actually quite the superpower.
