Vaguely stylish summer waterproof parka?

Any suggestions, now it’s nearly time to emerge from the cocooning embrace of a massive insulated Didriksons thing?

I’ve had a waxed cotton yellow Parka London jacket for the last few summers but it’s always been a bit leaky and is on its last legs. Good bits of it: big pockets, big hood, long enough to cover my arse, cotton lined.

Something hooded and lightweight but that will stand up to a heavy shower and look presentable in the longed-for pub garden. Don’t want a proper hiking waterproof, I’ve got that.

Love this Seasalt one. Have ordered an 8 because they had run out of 10 in the olive colour and unfortunately was too small. But looked really well made and stylish.

Orcadianrythyms · 16/03/2021 13:32

My recommendation was also a Seasalt one www.seasaltcornwall.co.uk/waterproof-jackets-raincoats/all-rain/coverack-long-waterproof-coat.htm
I've got it in Nickel, a nice greenish grey. It's a nice length and material but also really waterproof. Annoyingly I bought it for £80 in a sale but it's back up to full price.

Rainsisters.com do super stylish rain coats. Not cheap but they are very well made.

Phalarope · 16/03/2021 18:36

Thank you, these are all great. I’d not thought of Sweaty Betty - can feel myself trying to justify the cost (we do live in the rainy northwest though so anything with a hood gets plenty of wear)

I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/kin-parka-coat/khaki/p4889500?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

I've got this Kin for me , it's lovely and rainproof .

BritPopBabe · 16/03/2021 19:04

Protected Species do great ones. Often 40% off. I heard about them on here and love my parka.

I’ve just bought this one from Lighthouse and am really impressed. I’ve had loads of Barbour, Rab etc over the years and prefer this to all of them. I came across it just trawling the internet having sold lots of coats recently to try and slim down my wardrobe , but had left myself without a truly waterproof one.

It’s actually much more flattering on than it looks in the pictures, tartan lining makes it look a bit Barbour like. I took a chance as the reviews were excellent and with a £10 off new customer discount and free returns decided it was a no brainer. ( NEW10)

Wore it last week in a torrential downpour and stayed bone dry.

Already had lots of compliments and a colleague at work has since ordered in the navy.

That's really nice !

musicmum75 · 16/03/2021 21:04

The Protected Species commuter coat is gorgeous and very waterproof.

nevernotstruggling · 16/03/2021 21:06

I need this thread too. I'm returning my lighthouse coat - not quite the same as pp. first one bits fell off it after 3 wears. They have replaced it but the fit is so bizarre. Tight arms huge torso.

Phalarope · 16/03/2021 21:08

That Kin one looks good although it says only showerproof. I prefer the shape to the Lighthouse one which is a bit more countryside-y (technical term).

I really like the kin one too

VenusClapTrap · 16/03/2021 21:17

Avoid anything that just says showerproof. I’ve learnt this the hard way.

Orcadianrythyms · 18/03/2021 06:22

I've got the Protective Species commuter which is definitely stylish but the sleeves are so so long I don't wear it so much. I'm 5'6 so not short and don't think I've got short armsGrin

AlwaysColdHands · 18/03/2021 06:25

I have the sweaty Betty stride, in its second year, looks great and is the best raincoat I’ve ever had (after two decades of dog walking and searching).
It looks smart and has fantastic big pockets and a good hood.
I’m in the rainy north west too 😀

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 18/03/2021 11:49

Mine is obvs khaki , the grey is very meh .. I like it and I used loft tech wash on it to make it waterproof .

PlayItCool · 20/03/2021 08:36

I have the Kin one too in khaki. I'm really pleased with it

Toooldforthisshit49 · 22/03/2021 18:43

Decided I couldn’t stretch to the Sweaty Betty one and ordered the Kin. Probably a false economy given it’s not properly waterproof but feel inspired by the Nikwax wash suggestion.

It’s lovely - really nice cut, fabric is gorgeous, excellent pockets. Sized down and it’s still nicely oversized.
