Help! White spots after first hour of tooth whitening

Argh! I’ve always had a couple pale white spots on two of my healthy, but slightly yellowing now they’re middle-aged, front teeth, but they didn’t really show up. After using my expensive moulded whitening trays from the dentist - no cowboy stuff, wanted to do it properly - I’ve taken them off and found the white spots are dazzling white and my surrounding teeth look basically the same. It looks awfulSad. I’ve googled it and the internet seems split between ‘keep going, it will even out in the end’, or ‘you will have to have the white spots ground off the enamel’. Ugh, I wish I’d never done it now, it looks horrible. I don’t dare use the trays again and am hoping it might fade away?? Has this happened to anyone else?

You probably had the white spots already but now noticing more due to whitening. They are hypomineralized enamel spots in the subsurface layer. You can contact your dentist who will most likely advice you to continue whitening and when you reach the shade you are happy with you can have the white spots corrected. One of the treatment options to correct the spots is called ICON resin infiltration. HTH

This is totally normal. It will even out.

Thank you for replies. This is the thing though, people either say it will even out - in which case I’d keep going - or that it will need this ICON thingie - which is a bit worrying because it means more plus presumably going round with these little white tips on my teeth for months till I sort it out. Will try to call dentist today but I don’t think she’s in again till next week. I think I’m uniquely unfortunate about where the spots are - just on the protruding wonky tips of two of my front teeth. So it looks like fangs!

I recently had my teeth whitened, the white spots were a known side effect mentioned in the paperwork I signed beforehand.

I was assured they'd disappear within a couple of days, and they did.
