Egyptian Magic skin cream/ Balm

Has anyone tried the Egyptian Magic skin cream/ balm for skin care? I'm interested in knowing if it has a strong scent before I invest in a 300ml pot.

If you have tried it, what is the texture like? Is it akin to Vaseline or more like a cream like Astral?

There are such mixed reviews with some saying that it doesn't do anything, and others saying that it does everything (lips, elbows, eyebrows, knees and hooves).

I love this stuff but have never come across anyone else who's used it.

It's unscented, or so mild I don't notice it - maybe ever so slightly honey scented, but I wouldn't describe it as scented.

It's vaseline like but less sticky and easier to spread.

I have used it for everything but my go to is the last thing applied before going to bed at night and last thing before applying makeup in the morning and it leaves me with a glow. BUT I do have very dry skin.

I like it as a lip balm and for taming hair, dry elbows, on my feet slathered on under socks overnight. You really mostly though only need very little and I recently decided that I'm going to get the small pots from now on as I'm too impatient to use a little spoon, so I use my fingers and I grossed myself out - even thought I'm the only one using the pot!

I have used this a few years ago, I don't remember the fragrance being too strong, the texture is like Vaseline, to use sparingly on dry patches than like a all over cream.

I used to use it regularly but I’ve moved on to raw shea butter, which suits my dry skin better and I prefer it. I like that I can add oils to it (I’m not keen on the smell of shea). I moved from Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream to EM, as I HATE the smell of 8 Hour Cream but I liked the cream itself.

Egyptian Magic has a very ‘thick’ texture, definitely not an Astral type cream, the pp describes it perfectly. I found it a bit greasy but then so is raw shea, although I find that the shea sinks into my skin more rather than sitting on it. It doesn’t have a scent, it’s very neutral.

I liked it but not enough to stick with it after I tried shea. I think it’s overpriced for what it is but I like that it’s all natural and it is versatile.

I have purchased it before on a plane journey. It was fine but has never stood out for me as a great product. Make sure you buy it from boots or a chemist as I think I seen there was a lot of fakes on the market

Thank you for the really clear descriptions. I would like to buy it from Look fantastic with a reduction, but it would still involve paying out £20 for so many unknowns. When I buy online, I'm often disappointed with the scent. So it's good to know that there no noticeable scent @dudsville @lifehack and @SparePantsAndLego .

But very true @liverpool1981 , I was considering another website which claimed that the product was to be shipped from China! I thought that it's marketing point was that all the previous pharaohs in Egypt had used it too.

I like Shea butter too @SparePantsAndLego , but my face gets itchy with it by the middle of the day.

@TeaAddict235, I wouldn’t say its effects last longer than shea. I would recommend 8 Hour Cream but the smell...
Have you tried rosehip oil? The Trilogy one is lovely but the Aldi rose and vitamin E is also very good.

Pigtailsandall · 14/03/2021 14:51

I bought some from a pharmacy in Cairo and it's got a very neutral smell. I used when I was pregnant on my belly.

WellTidy · 14/03/2021 15:11

I had a full size pot of this in an advent calendar one year. Had high hopes due to the hype, but I didn’t like it at all. I found it very greasy and it didn’t do anything more than Vaseline would. I find & hour cream much better. But I didn’t notice any smell with it at all.

dudsville · 14/03/2021 16:06

I'd put the EA8hr aside for EM and Erik soon be making myself use up the 8hr stuff before buying more EM! See if you can find the really small pot. Look fantastic had done around the holidays but they sold out.

I tried it many years ago after seeing the TV programme J Lo's sister presented. Juliette Lewis raved about it. Thought it would be amazing but it really didn't do anything.

TeaAddict235 · 15/03/2021 09:41

Thank you for the advice. You might have saved many of us making a mediocre decision with a high price!
I'll probably rebuy the 8 hour cream and use my Vaseline until I do so. Thank you

I always find that my skin gets itchy with nest oils @SparePantsAndLego . I'm not sure if maybe the oils sour due to oxidation and then become slightly too acidic for my skin; or if I have sensitive skin. I'll look out for some Rosehip oil at the chemist and give it a try

I got mine from tkmaxx for 12.99. It has an oily balm texture. It’s like Vaseline but not as thick.

Chickydoo · 19/03/2021 12:39

I love it! I have very dry skin. Use it as a night balm/cream
Skin is gorgeous in the morning.
I usually use a serum underneath it

TeaAddict235 · 19/03/2021 19:17

Ooooh @Wonderbrush I'll have to have a nosy at TK Max's next time I'm in there (can't wait for places to open up properly)!!

Very interesting @Chickydoo , I was hoping for such an effect. Mask on, new face in the morning Grin

I brought a pot on a flight once, ok, but not amazing, no real fragrance, greasy, multipurpose product.

Pinksatin · 19/03/2021 21:08

@TeaAddict235

Costco also sell it. www.costco.co.uk/Personal-Care/Beauty/Skin-Care/Egyptian-Magic-Skin-Cream-118ml-7ml/p/1287338
