Boots Curl Creme discontinued [sad]

Franksalot · 13/03/2021 21:36

It looks like Boots Curl Creme is being discontinued, as the website does not list it anymore and says it’s “either removed or no longer for sale”. I’ve used this for as long as I can remember, and although I’ve tried so many other products when it was temporarily unavailable over the years, I can’t find anything as good. I sort of follow the curly girl method, so don’t want silicones (I know the curl creme had an drying alcohol).

I’ve got 4 pots left, that I’m going to now save for special occasions! But can anyone recommend a curl creme that is similar to the Boots one, otherwise I might have to start straightening my hair! My curls are type 3B coily frizzy.

It's out of stock again! When will I learn and continually stock up, rather than panic buy them use it all up when it seems to be everywhere, only to find it's out of stock again. Got lulled into buying a £30 only curls set by social media reviews, in absence of the pink stuff and it's rubbish.

Journeynotdestination · 19/09/2021 13:19

This is a great alternative! Big bottle and you only need a really small amount. I love it. I found it after looking at the Boots Curl creme reviews, and someone said this is a great dupe.

Cantu Shea Butter Curl Activator... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B009AZ3WH4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I've used this then UG jelly for years and ran out just as they became out of stock. I've since replaced it with mousse before the jelly and realised my hair is much more voluminous without it. I think it might be too heavy for me but it feels very strange not using it!

KingdomScrolls · 20/09/2021 22:56

@Journeynotdestination I use the cantu activator before the curl creme, the activator alone makes my hair frizzy and not enough hold. Both and air-dry and I get random curls, both and diffuser and I get almost ringlets. I've just bought two tubs for £10 on eBay, it's painful, but not as expensive as buying loads of hair products that end up not working....

Greta1968 · 21/09/2021 15:14

Fortunately i have about 14 tubs of boots curl cream, i wasn't getting stuck without this time , but i found cantu curl cream does exactly the same thing as the boots one

theaccidentaleconomist · 28/09/2021 11:37

Looks like it has completely vanished from the Boots website again.

Before that happened I noticed a review there, with a few thanks, wondering if it had been reformulated as it left the reviewer's hair frizzy and limp. The ingredients do not appear to have been changed. However when I tried a recently bought tub I noticed it does not seem to have the same hold as before. Has anyone else experienced this?

Greta1968 · 28/09/2021 14:04

I have also noticed it doesn't work like it use to , im sticking with the cantu curl cream ,

Ichangemynameagain · 28/09/2021 14:10

I'm gutted, got about 1/2 a jar left.

Everyone raves about Cantu, but it is far too rich for my hair and leaves it really greasy. Then the roots go frizzy with it. Confused

The next best products I've found so far are Twisted Sista. They do a cream gel and a gel for about £6 each in boots. They both hold quite well, but aren't too greasy/rich/heavy.

Shea Moisture also do a good gel cream in a green tube, but for £12 a time, I won't rush out to buy that.

theaccidentaleconomist · 28/09/2021 16:07

I noticed that my recently purchased Boots curl creme doesn't seem to leave a cast no matter how much I use. I could be imagining it but the consistency seems marginally thinner than the old version. At least I have six tubs of that left.

What I loved about the old Boots curl creme was that it thickened and volumised my hair as well as holding my waves. I'm perimenopausal with fine hair that was once thick but has now lost a lot of density. So many other curl cremes just seem to make it seem thinner. I have a bottle of Cantu lurking in the back of the bathroom cupboard. Must dig that out and give it another go.

JenniferDavison · 05/10/2021 13:00

Has anyone been able to find out what's happening with Boots Curl Creme? Are they bringing it back? They did this in 2017 and brought it back about 3 months later

Greta1968 · 05/10/2021 13:13

I have just emailed them to find out if they will be getting stock in soon .

JenniferDavison · 07/10/2021 09:56

I received a reply from Boots Customer Care

'Thanks for contacting us regarding our Boots Essentials Curl Creme. I am sorry to hear that you have been unable to find this in your local store.

I can confirm that we have made the decision to discontinue this product, to make way for new ranges.

Please accept my apologies for any disappointment this may cause.'

Appleseesaw · 07/10/2021 09:59

Wow, I’m shocked about this as the product has been around for so long. I wouldn’t be surprised though if it pops up again at a later date, rebranded.

Greta1968 · 07/10/2021 13:08

Its been discontinued, just got this email back off them

Boots Curl Creme discontinued [sad]
ByTheSea · 07/10/2021 13:33

I'm gutted, still have a bunch of tubs left from my last order but still...

JenniferDavison · 07/10/2021 14:26

That's the same email I got.
I'm so upset, I've used it for 20 years

Going to try Cantu curl activator tonight
Seems to have similar ingredients ...

ACNHMAMA · 07/10/2021 14:29

Well that's my advantage card getting cut up in protest now. After I spend the £20 i have on it

theaccidentaleconomist · 08/10/2021 14:37

I messaged Boots on Facebook and received the following reply:

''The Boots Curl Crème is one of our bestselling products. Unfortunately, the product is currently out of stock as within the formulation, there is a single raw ingredient that is in global short supply.

Our product specialists are working hard to find alternative sources for the ingredient, and we hope to have it back in stock as soon as we can.''

I wonder if the shortage of this mysterious ingredient was what was making the recent tub I bought so ineffective.

Greta1968 · 08/10/2021 16:04

There may be the odd 1 in shops but its been discontinued to make way for new products

JenniferDavison · 11/10/2021 10:32

That's good to know about the ingredient shortage.

There's still hope that they will bring it back! and hopefully find a better alternative

Greta1968 · 11/10/2021 11:01

So why are the telling people different things ? I got an email back saying it was discontinued to make way for new products , but you got told they can't get hold of one ingredient? They need to make their minds up 😡

QuitMoaning · 11/10/2021 11:07

Have you tried the only curls products? I bought their sample box which wasn’t cheap and seems quite good although I don’t use it very often.

Still not sure I will buy it again.

AMG1 · 11/10/2021 22:57

Boots replied to my tweet about this today and said that they haven’t discontinued it. They’re just having supply issues with one of its raw ingredients which is in short supply globally. They’re trying to source this ingredient from elsewhere and hope to have it back on the shelves soon.

AMG1 · 13/10/2021 13:58

I tweeted Boots to ask if the content of the email you received was incorrect and received this response:

Thanks for getting back to us. We can confirm that this product hasn't been discontinued. We've raised this with the relevant teams for internal review. We do apologise for any confusion caused. Thanks - Cat

Linzieloo · 15/11/2021 12:33

November 2021 - This has disappeared AGAIN!!!!! now people are again charging inflated prices on ebay for one pot of it!!!!! £20!!!!!! I have emailed Boots customer services however I won't be holding my breath! This subject has even had a petition on Change.org.
