Apple apparel - stuff that as a size 14 I find works-

Thought I would start a thread for those who struggle with an apple shape. I am finding Next good this year. Would love to hear your recommendations too.

Shops that I find are apple friendly include Phase Eight, The White Company and some Simply be (tunics). Roman original capri trousers worn with tunic length jumpers/tops are also excellent.

New look emilee leggings work wonders and are nice and tight fitting on the leg. They keep their shape too.

These are my favourite basics so far that I have bought having had a bit of a spree at Next.

cropped leggings- so flattering
T-shirt dress (cap sleeve)
Dolman 3/4 length top
Jersey culottes
Sculpt leggings
Jersey denim leggings (less flattering but passable and supremely comfortable)
Cap sleeve t-shirt- fabulous with wide leg jersey trousers from Simply Be or White Company.
Long sleeve t-shirt dresses- these are ok but the cap sleeve ones are better quality material.

Am accessorising with animal print scarf and long pendants to elongate. Shoes are leather trainers, converse and Birkenstocks Mayari.

I have bought their long t-shirt maxi but haven't tried it yet so will report back for those interested.

Are you tall? I am only just average height and find all those cropped things make me look short and dumpy.

Do you have any recommendations for dresses? I don't know how to wear them. I am a size 10-12 and 5"7. I prefer midi length but all the dresses seem to be very short right now.

PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit · 14/03/2021 08:05

Summer I am shade under average height and don't find they make me look dumpy because I wear tops to a least around mid thigh level if I am wearing something tight on the bottom. I think this sorts out proportions because you can't see where my legs end IYSWIM. If I do wear a shorter top I wear much looser bottoms- but again the shortest I would wear would come past my hips and be loose on the body.

Frequent - I find dress wise mid length does not work for me so either do really long or above the knee/tunic length. Shape wise I avoid any waist detail and pouffy empire lines. Swing shapes are good as are boxy cuts (but not too oversized).

I am quite excited about this dress which is arriving today and can see it working with all sorts. Phase eight are doing a version too in khaki which looks really flattering but is double the price.

Frequent this
might work in the longest length they do and sized so it is a loose fit.

These are the cap sleeve ones which I rate. They keep their shape and wash well too. I have these in black and khaki.

These jersey wide legs from Simply Be are really flattering and comfortable- I have several purchased over time and they wash and wear well. They keep their shape too and don't cling. I have sized down.

Where are these from?
PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit · 14/03/2021 08:27

These Roman cropped ones are brilliant but only flattering in the darker colours. They also keep their shape and wash and wear well. I would say they are true to size. Easy to dress up and down and not restrictive around the stomach- they pull on. Strictly for tunic length though I would say.

these are the best leggings I have ever had. Really flattering, not transparent and last for ages. Brilliant staple.

Hope this helps others who struggle with finding flattering stuff. Apple shape is a challenge.

Looking forward to hearing others recommendations Smile

I really like all those dresses. Thank you. Am v tomboyish and don't like frills and fussy details. These look clean and easy to wear. No suggestions myself as have hardly bought any clothes lately; nowhere to wear them to!

Size 18 apple here. I have the short sleeve t shirt dresses and ordered the long sleep one yesterday and the culottes! I find their linen dresses good over warmer months.

They used to do linen sleeveless shell tops which were good as they would skim over my tummy. They’ve stopped doing them now which is very irritating.
