Rosacea...

I just wanted to post this in case it helps anyone in my situation. I’ve suffered on and off with problem skin since I was about 22 (41 now) As anyone with “bad” skin knows it’s a really upsetting thing to deal with. You get many opinions as in, don’t wear makeup, it’s your diet, go on the pill. I’ve been on so many different medications and antibiotics like, Erythromycin, Lymecycline, topical acne cream plus I’ve also been on Roaccutane. I was always told I have cystic acne. Nothing worked. Until I started researching myself. So as far as I’ve found out Rosacea is caused by excess dermodex mites in your skin that cause the inflammation and spots. With this you can have redness on it’s own or along with cystic spots that look like acne. So, I decided to try Cetaphil cleanser and Soolantra from Superdrug online doctors. Basically it has cleared my skin in 3 months, I can’t tell you how relieved I am and amazed. I just want to help anyone suffering with this that may help you too. I’ll post pics in a minute if anyone is interested x

Was the soolantra expensive? I’d like to try it.

Rosaceagal · 12/03/2021 21:22

Also I meant to say, I still get redness especially after alcohol and/or a hot bath. It's not away completely but so much better than I've ever imagined.

Hi Queen, it was £38 from the Superdrug Online doctors. I've only used one tube in 3 months. I'm scared it comes back but I will just reorder I'm waiting a few weeks to see if I have any bad brake outs x

I have had my eyebrows micro bladed since then but makeup wise I have nothing on my face. This is hard to post but I want to help anyone that I can x

Thank you, I’ve taken the plunge!

ThunderR0ad78 · 12/03/2021 21:42

Thank you for sharing! I suffer to and my rosacea looks very similar to your initial photo at times Sad
I'm currently back on Lymecycline - did this not work for you?

justanotherneighinparadise · 12/03/2021 21:43

Oh wow you look amazing!!! I only get the flushing associated with rosacea and I’ve fancied trying Minerva for ages just got an emergency. I might see if I can get it through an online prescription.

Rosaceagal · 12/03/2021 21:48

Queen I'm so glad. See at the end of the day why's the harm in trying x

Hi Thunder,

Lymecycline worked and so did other antibiotics for a time. The thing is, I really didn't want to keep taking antibiotics for years which my doctors seemed to be happy with me to do. I felt long term it would not be a good idea

Justanothernight see that's the thing with Rosacea it's sometimes redness and flushing. I feel your pain. Soolantra and Cetaphil has worked for me and I can't believe it. I just want to tell anyone else that's been told they have acne etc. It's not always that simple.

ThunderR0ad78 · 12/03/2021 21:58

I really suffer with pustules too - looking at your nose in your first photo is like looking at me and I too am equally red in many areas.

Yeah I totally get what you mean about the antibiotics - I've had rosacea about 12/13 years (I'm 42) before this I never had a blemish - ever Smile

I tend to only take a course about once a year, basically when the spots and rudeness gets too much but otherwise I just live with moderate rosacea - have accepted it I suppose.

I will now though give these products a try as maybe I don't have to! Do you use them as a medicine or as your skin care routine?

Thanks again for sharing this! X

Zooxanthellae · 12/03/2021 21:58

What an amazing difference it's made. I'm tempted to buy soolantra as well. I've asked my GP but they said it wasn't available. Can I ask if you had thickened skin and if so, did it help with that?

ThunderR0ad78 · 12/03/2021 21:59

Blush - redness not rudeness 🤣

BlipBlopYourNipNop · 12/03/2021 22:14

I have type 1 Rosacea, so for me I just have very red cheeks all the time. When it flushes they go sunburn red and sting. Enough to make my eyes water. I cant sit near anything that blows warm air. No heating on in my car over winter ever!

I get hormonal breakouts on my chin but my cheeks remain clear from spots.

I'm giving Soolantra a go and started early Feb. It hasn't made any difference yet. But it hasn't made it any worse. I also went through Superdrug online.

You look amazing OP, I'm glad it worked for you.

Rosaceagal · 12/03/2021 22:15

Thunder...sorry I don't know how to tag people yet. Yes I suffered badly with pustules also, I have a few bad scars on my cheeks and chin. I basically used the Cetaphil as a cleanser twice a day then I used the Soolantra at night on my cheeks and nose x

Rosaceagal · 12/03/2021 22:19

Zooxs.. no I've never suffered with thickened skin but I understand that can also be an issue too with Rosacea. Since I've figured out what works I am going to ask my doctor to prescribe Soolantra as it totally makes sense

OP posts:
Rosaceagal · 12/03/2021 22:27

Blipblop... I think that's the think with Rosacea there are so many variations and people are affected differently. Yours sounds so different to mine. It's so hard to find what works. See sun and heat doesn't seem to affect my skin, it's strange xx

@rosaceagal wow you look fantastic

HickoryDickoryDot · 13/03/2021 02:17

I asked my GP for Soolantra yesterday after reading about it in the Caroline Hirons Facebook group. Surprisingly he prescribed it to me straight away. He did say that it was off label for rosacea but known to work. I’m so excited to hopefully have clear skin in time for summer!

Thanks for sharing OP. Your skin looks fantastic. I don’t see why you can’t have it prescribed when it clearly works for you!

lorettaobrian · 13/03/2021 02:52

Thank you so much for sharing OP I can't tell you how reassuring it was to read and see pictures - I look same cheek redness/ but I've more postules in the before pic. The after pic is transformational I'm in awe!

Builtthiscityontoiletrolls · 13/03/2021 03:22

Afaik Demodex causes type 2 rosacea (there are 4 I think). I also treated my face as having acne for 20 odd years before I got soolantra and cleared it in weeks. It doesn’t cure the redness totally I was told you need laser to get rid of the tiny surface blood vessels that cause that. The only problem was the purge of spots at the start. Someone said that’s them dying Envy not envy.

CrayonInThreeBits · 13/03/2021 03:28

Irrelevant but while skimming through Active I saw this thread and at first glance thought it was a baby name one. I mean, it'd be quite a pretty name, really… Rosacea and her brother Demodex, Rosie and Dex for short?

Shanster · 13/03/2021 03:36

My dermatologist prescribed soolantra with finestra foam 2x per day and my skin seems much better after 6 weeks.

DailyCandy · 13/03/2021 05:33

Your skin looks fantastic. I also got soolantra online.

SarahBellam · 13/03/2021 06:23

Another one for Soolantra. Someone mentioned it on here and I got an online prescription. It made a huge difference. Still get flushed skin occasionally but I don’t look like I just got out of the bath any more.
