Rosacea...

I just wanted to post this in case it helps anyone in my situation. I’ve suffered on and off with problem skin since I was about 22 (41 now) As anyone with “bad” skin knows it’s a really upsetting thing to deal with. You get many opinions as in, don’t wear makeup, it’s your diet, go on the pill. I’ve been on so many different medications and antibiotics like, Erythromycin, Lymecycline, topical acne cream plus I’ve also been on Roaccutane. I was always told I have cystic acne. Nothing worked. Until I started researching myself. So as far as I’ve found out Rosacea is caused by excess dermodex mites in your skin that cause the inflammation and spots. With this you can have redness on it’s own or along with cystic spots that look like acne. So, I decided to try Cetaphil cleanser and Soolantra from Superdrug online doctors. Basically it has cleared my skin in 3 months, I can’t tell you how relieved I am and amazed. I just want to help anyone suffering with this that may help you too. I’ll post pics in a minute if anyone is interested x

Thank you op. I actually came on here last night to look for rosacea as I am having a terrible flare up. I started soolantra last week but seems to be making it worse. Will try cetaphil and persevere. Can I ask what moisturiser and make up do you use? I’m using la Roche posay toleraine light. Think my Lancôme make up is making spots worse but I need the coverage. I couldn’t go out of the house without makeup ☹️

FinallyGotAnIPhone · 13/03/2021 08:05

I have had rosacea for five years or so now. Tried a few things but the only thing that made any difference was a course of Lymecycline. After I finished the course though the spots started coming back. I have since moved onto Soolantra (both of these on prescription from the GP). I’m now on my second tube and it does indeed keep the spots at bay. My skin is still a bit red but nothing too bad. So another vote for
Soolantra here. FYI there are a few groups on Facebook about Rosacea where lots of people post their tips.

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 13/03/2021 08:19

Amazing results!
I’ve been on and off Lymecycline for 20 odd years and that keeps it under control but doesn’t completely remove it. I tried Soolantra but unfortunately it did absolutely nothing for my skin.
I’ve therefore taken the plunge and am going to try the laser route. I’ve been warned it might not work, and it’s expensive, but if I don’t give it a try I’ll never know.

pleasestoprainingplease · 13/03/2021 08:25

I started using soolantra 2 years ago. The difference was amazing. I also brought it from Superdrug online. I have re ordered it Jan this year as it was looking fierce again, but now completely better. It's brilliant. Definitely worth a shot I think for anyone suffering.

Rosaceabegone · 13/03/2021 08:43

I've changed user name for this.

Mine was a lot worse than yours was Op but I'll confirm that the combination of roaccutane and Soolantra was so transformative and I now have completely clear skin, have done for a few years now. I was one of the first Soolantra users after trials and I had it prescribed by the dermatologist team I was under.

So those of you out there suffering, speak to your Gp.

YerAWizardHarry01 · 13/03/2021 09:56

That's incredible, brb off to superdrug

Rosaceagal · 13/03/2021 10:02

@lorettaobrian

Thank you so much for sharing OP I can't tell you how reassuring it was to read and see pictures - I look same cheek redness/ but I've more postules in the before pic. The after pic is transformational I'm in awe!
I'm glad it's reassured you, I'm just relieved after all these years I've found something that has actually worked. I've struggled for years with awful skin

Oh I know what you mean about not leaving the house without makeup, I was the same but amazingly I'm able to do that now. Although only to the local shop, I'm not that brave yet. I use Charlotte Tilbury airbrush flawless foundation but I've been using the NYX bb cream for lighter coverage. I'll post the moisturiser I use x

Thank you for posting OP. That's the most useful straight forward post I've ever read on the subject. Your skin looks great.

Rosaceagal · 13/03/2021 10:21

This is the cleanser and moisturiser I use. I'm going to see if my GP will prescribe soolantra rather than me buying it from Superdrug online. I'm glad it's working for so many of you, I just wish I'd found it sooner.

Thank you so much😊

I just wanted to say because no one told me when I was prescribed it and I only found out from reading online - it can take 12 weeks to make a difference. This was definitely true for me. But after 12 weeks the difference was dramatic.

Redact · 13/03/2021 10:35

Thank you for posting. The difference is amazing and you look fantastic. I've only just started to get rosacea on my chin and nose since we started to wear masks so I will definitely be buying the cream and if it doesn't clear up in future after we stop mask wearing will be ordering the soolantra. My worry is that it spreads, I've already started to get random lump like spots on my cheek as well as my chin.

Imkindreally · 13/03/2021 11:05

I’ve had flushing on my face and neck for years but in the past week it’s suddenly come on every time I’ve been outside Blush I’m not sure if this is rosacea or allergy?

I think sunlight can sometimes be a trigger but I'm no expert as my rosacea is more acne like rather than flushing like yours. Maybe try wearing an spf 30 and see if that helps.

I have ETR & ocular rosacea. I was so excited to see the difference it made for you & went on the Superdrug website where it says "Soolantra is only prescribed for papulopustular rosacea, even if it can help ETR." If it can help, why will they not prescribe it?!

Superdrug also seem to offer Mirvaso - has anyone tried that? Or found anything that helps with ETR or ocular rosacea? I miss eye make-up. Or any kind of make-up really, but I used to love doing my eyes.

I'm glad you've found something that works for you OP, fx the GP is happy to prescribe it for you!

Ouchiehelpneeded · 13/03/2021 11:49

You look great OP!

I've posted my before and after pics before, but just as extra evidence of the effectiveness of soolantra for papula(sp?) rosacea, I'll post them again!

My nose wasn't badly affected, but my cheeks were so sore! All make up made it sting and nothing covered it anyway, because it was so lumpy and a weird tight/shiny texture. Horrible.

I still use soolantra every couple of days and have no plans to stop!

My Soolantra will be available to pick up on Monday, I had hoped for today but my local branch couldn’t get it in time. Still, I’ve had rosacea for 10 years, so a few more days is hardly the end of the world.

QueenofLouisiana · 13/03/2021 17:13

@Ouchiehelpneeded wow!! Amazing skin.

GoOnTwo · 13/03/2021 17:37

Soolantra was amazing for me. My complexion is miles better.

Has anyone found anything to cure redness?

Builtthiscityontoiletrolls · 14/03/2021 02:38

For anyone asking about moisturiser to use it says in my ingredients list that the ivermectin (soolantra ingredient) is suspended in cetaphil. So I reckon that could be a good first step to try

SherryPalmer · 14/03/2021 07:00

I would be very careful about Mirvaso. It temporarily stops flushing but each application lasts a limited time and then the flushing can come back twice as bad. It might be useful for special occasions but it’s not a “cure”.

I'm so happy you decided to try it. I really hope it works for you please keep me posted. Like you say no harm in trying when you have suffered for so long, that's the way I thought too. I've tried everything else so why not this.

@QueenofLouisiana I was just wondering how you were getting on with the soolantra?

OP posts:
QueenofLouisiana · 28/03/2021 19:43

@Rosaceagal the first photo is last week, the second is my starting point. I’m a bit spotty at the minute, which I think is fairly common two weeks in- as things change on the skin. Definitely improving!
