Why are my nails so strong?

I normally have average fingernails. The kind that break and flake once they get to a certain length.

Since January I've noticed my fingernails are really thick and strong. So thick I can hardly cut and file them. I've just cut them this evening and they look dreadful - they were so strong I could hardly clip them, and had to use all my strength, and I've then worn down an entire nail file trying to get them into shape.

My diet and the supplements I take haven't changed. What could have caused this and do I need to sorry?

Following because I've always had extremely strong and thick nails. I have to buff them down to stop them resembling bird's claws!

I'm not sure why yours is though, sorry that's not much help.
