Is this dated?

I’ve done very little face to face shopping for years since having DC which makes it trickier to adapt to new norms (trainers for smart! dresses cut like sacks!), and I’m short so some things drown me - but I want to look modern, or at least not stuck in pre DC times. So I can’t still be wearing knockoff Galaxy work dresses and courts in 2021 when others are wafting about in things with twice as much fabric.

Is this dated? The colours would suit me and phase eight fits well, but are the dark florals and the fitted style very 2015 when put together? Or is it saved by the long sleeves, high neck and (on me would be) below the knee length?

Fwiw I currently ought to be looking for bf clothes, not this, but no harm in thinking ahead to not needing poppers and having a waist again 😂

Are you talking about for work, since you reference galaxy dresses? Maybe you should wait and see what the dress code is going to be (sorry, can’t tell from your post if you’re currently at work or not). FWIW, I do think it is dated, either that or a wedding guest dress.

Wedding guest springs to mind

WashableVelvet · 11/03/2021 20:55

Yes, I’ll be going back this summer (office job, smartish but not suits)

Ah ok. In that case it’s probably fine if you suit that sort of dress, it isn’t dated as a work dress imo. The only reason I mentioned dress code is that at my very small office we were previously smart as well and now we’ve been dressing down for months, I can’t see it going back to as smart as it was. But sounds like your office isn’t like that. Maybe wait for it in the sales if you aren’t going back just yet Smile

Think you guys are right about wedding guest too, though. I’m clearly yearning for some parties as well as adult company Grin

You said it Grin

I had an epiphany a few months ago and realised that all my fitted dresses were dated - key word these days is slouchy.

DaisyDaisyDay · 11/03/2021 23:16

Maybe I'm out of touch myself Grin but I don't see that as an office/work dress. I think it's the combination of body con shape, ruching and stretch fabric.

There's lots of shirt dresses around which would be suitable for work and they are more fashionable (and flattering, probably) than stretch bodycon. Either that or shift dresses with a long sleeve blouse shirt underneath.

WashableVelvet · 12/03/2021 09:40

Damn. You’re all right. I suspected it.

I’ll have to come back for advice when I’m nearer my work return date... I’m short and norky so a lot of the slouchy stuff makes me look like Nursie from Blackadder.

@WashableVelvet I am short and busty too and used to live in shirt dresses for work
