I miss lipstick

I used to very much love lipstick. I haven't worn it now for a year. Seems pointless with masks and comes off on the inside. The dress code for work zoom calls seems to have become more and more casual. Everybody is wearing lip balm and athleisure, and MAC Russian Red would look like I am trying too hard. Where are you all wearing your lipstick?

West it if you want! I like Charlotte tilbury pillow talk :)

Dayafterday · 10/03/2021 19:56

I wear my lipstick to the shop and put a mask over it. I don’t feel dressed without it. The only other time might be the odd zoom call but very natural.

willibald · 10/03/2021 19:57

I miss it, too.

NigellaSeed · 10/03/2021 19:57

Saaaaame. Lipstick is my achelles heel.

Now that there is little point in wearing lipstick, I'd be happy to just have a need for one colour, any excuse! ...and I wonder if I'll ever have the need for 26 ever so slightly different shades of nude again Sad.

I don't miss it, have got out of the habit and now prefer lip balm. Put some on for a walk the other day and felt very odd and over-dressed Smile

This is exactly it. Feels odd. Like high heels or tight clothes. I also think adding a slash of red only accentuates the lockdown eye bags, the wild uncut hair and the general unkemptness. Roll on restaurants opening. Even outdoor ones.

Me too OP, my lips are one of my good features it feels such a waste.

goldielockdown2 · 10/03/2021 20:22

I wear it regardless, I'd never stop I don't think.

Ninkanink · 10/03/2021 20:23

Oh no a slash of red with unkempt hair would be very French cool! Do it! Maybe a glass of wine just off camera, too... Wink

Life’s too short to not wear lipstick if you’re missing it! Maybe join the lipstick thread for inspiration?

AuldFox · 10/03/2021 20:24

I always wear it when I go for a walk. I’m the one in joggers and bright red lippie Smile

CafeMochaVodkaValiumLate · 10/03/2021 20:24

I wear it too. I have a vivid red that I just live because i think it makes my teeth look really white. I tend to wear it to make up for another lounge set Grin and I'll throw my hair up and just mascara so I don't look like I'm off on a night out.

Mosaic123 · 10/03/2021 20:24

On the other hand I might be c wearing a little more eye makeup, when I can be bothered to put it on.

Cheesypea · 10/03/2021 20:24

I miss it too op. I look like crap on my work calls but I just don't care any more.

HundredMilesAnHour · 10/03/2021 20:28

I wear lipstick on Zoom calls. Although If I'm really slacking off, I wear Hourglass's coloured lip oil (even to take my rubbish out).

And if it's with someone more senior/I'm presenting, I've been known to add earrings/a necklace and a jacket over my gym kit. From the waist up, it looks like I'm very smartly dressed (everyone thinks my plain black gym vest is a fitted dress lol).

I find it helps me mentally to maintain some sort of standards. On my upper half at least!

Lilypad78 · 10/03/2021 20:37

Come join us on the lipstick thread Smile i wear it just for myself, I'm working from home pretty much permanently now & whilst I'm in jeans & casual clothes I am trying to do a smarter version & I still wear make up most days as I found it really helps my wellbeing. I do tend to stick to nudes when I have a video call as I agree it feels a bit over the top, but actually on the one occasion I wore a bright colour my colleagues were all very complimentary Smile

I really should just do this, so I don't forget how to wear it at all.

I agree OP. I like my bright reds. I don't wear them under masks as I think it's pointless & it just smudges but even for work calls, I find red lips look both too 'try-hard' & don't work well on screen.

So I'm nude lips all the way at the moment, but I'm dialling down a lot of my make-up (not that it was ever v heavy) these days as I think natural works better for video calls. It's strange.

However, I hate being on calls with no make-up at all, God, I notice all my blemishes and lockdown spots. I try to avoid this if I can but on busy days I sometimes only have time to sort kids before plunging into work meetings, hate being so unkempt.

Volcanoexplorer · 10/03/2021 22:04

I miss it too. You’re not alone.
