Hi all, after some help plse. I’m 41 and have just started a proper skincare routine using tropic which I know, some people don’t like but I do & I’m seeing a real positive results. Anyway, I’m trying to find a product to give my skin some light coverage/glow as I definitely need some help in that area. Everything I have tried so far is great to start but after a week or so results in my skin being flakey on my nose after a week or so which isn’t a look I’m keen to embrace. Any thoughts on what would be worth a go? I just want light coverage nothing too heavy. Thanks

Or do I need a primer? I’m a bit clueless really.

I use bare minerals complexion rescue which is a tinted moisturiser and really light coverage. Not sure about the dry skin issue as it's not something I have to contend with but you could always have a read of some reviews and see if you can find any clues in there.

I have seen the M&S tinted moisturiser/bb cream recommended on here but haven't tried it yet so can't comment personally but it does tend to come up quite a bit.

If you're looking for a glow rather than coverage, you could try facial tanning drops in your night cream? Tan-luxe / Isle of Paradise are the ones that spring to mind. You only need a couple of drops at a time so they last ages. Again, not sure about dryness, but as you'd only using a tiny amount mixed into a moisturiser you know you like, it might be worth a try?

I have dry skin and suffer from flaky nose too. I use a primer (I love benefit porefessional but I am also looking to buy a more glowy one too) and Clinique even better foundation. Medium coverage, but lightweight and stays put.

WellTidy · 10/03/2021 19:43

But the lightest weight light coverage product I have is laura mercier tinted moisturiser. The tube is larger than most tinted moisturisers or foundations, so if lasts for ages and although it’s pricey, you get a lot of product.

Thanks both. The sun drops is a good idea. I’ve also just randomly come across a Lisa Eldridge video which suggests this serum is good for dry skin.
I’ll have a look at the ideas above too

Seconding pp - Laura Mercier is really great for dry skin. I recently bought Spa Magik tinted moisturiser based on recommendations on here and it is really great and cheaper too.

canteatwhenstressed · 10/03/2021 19:49

Op I have the same issue, I don’t use a primer but apply blue nivea first. Let it absorb. Then garnier bb Cream.

InsufferablePerformanceFather · 10/03/2021 19:57

I have dry, pale skin and I have been using No.7 Bb Cream for years. It's so sheer and leaves my skin looking fresh and healthy. Their pore minimising primer is an everyday thing for me too.

Daisy829 · 10/03/2021 20:20

@canteatwhenstressed I’ve always used the Nivea blue moisturiser too but my skin needs a bit more now as it’s ageing!

I’ll have a look at spa magik.
Unfortunately I’ve tried no 7 & it made my skin dry out. It’s so frustrating!

It cosmetics CC cream is fabulous. Moisturising, dewy, and spf. Stays on all day. My favourite product.

I 100% agree. It's wonderful. I also really like The Ordinary Serum foundation.

Daisy829 · 11/03/2021 07:10

I like the look of the it cc cream. I also like the look of spa magik but it’s oos everywhere.
Thanks ladies. Some good ideas here to try.

You can get travel sized IT Cosmetics cc cream if you want to try it out. Think it's £14 from Boots.

I second the vote for bare minerals complexion rescue tinted moisturiser. I have dry skin too and am prone to a flakey nose. This is really good.. really moist and glowy but natural looking coverage.

Daisy829 · 11/03/2021 10:19

Oh bare minerals looks good too. Thanks.

I have dry skin and have both. I prefer the Bare Minerals which is lighter coverage. It CC is full coverage.i use one pump with a Beauty Blender when I want to use foundation. Although it is SPF 50 you would have to use a teaspoon of it to get the protection and that would look very mask like. However, this is my current favourite for a light glowy base. www.johnlewis.com/lumene-invisible-illumination-instant-glow-beauty-serum/universal-medium/p4801280?s_ppc=1dxDSA-BEAUTY39700020053400474&tmad=c&tmcampid=1&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=Cj0KCQiAnKeCBhDPARIsAFDTLTIrgrgm8-7OTqGwe54-5jRmPm0Jx99lU16qDN2Afx8NnZV-N2zD-OkaAg4wEALw_wcB

MuddleMoo · 11/03/2021 11:42

I third the bare minerals though I think they might have discontinued my shade (unless it just sells out REAlly quickly)

Tehmina23 · 11/03/2021 12:22

I think you should use a cream cleanser like Simple cleansing lotion then Simple toner.

Exfoliate twice a week only with a gentle scrub eg Clinique seven day scrub.

Then Use an anti ageing serum all over then an anti ageing day cream with at least spf15. Or an anti ageing night cream at night.

The best primers are by Smashbox.

I like Boots No7 BB cream which you can get in Normal to Dry,

I'm also thinking about the Tan Luxe tanning drops, but they're expensive.. but definitely sort out the dryness first or any tan will stick to the dry patches.

idontlikealdi · 11/03/2021 12:25

Having been a greasy dish pan all though my teens, last year at 41 I've suddenly got dry skin.

I exfoliate in the shower, nivea blue creme after, and then can use a primer - currently on Maybelline or Benefit Porefessional. Anything else lasts a couple of hours and then flakes. Foundation doesnt work anymore.

Peri meno I think?

Daisy829 · 11/03/2021 12:49

@idontlikealdi yes I think I’m peri meno too. Joy.
I used a hydrating mask last night which seems to have made a difference. I’ve got an exfoliator too so I’ll use that.
Thanks for all the good advice on here
