It always looks so shit. Like when Ross did it to Rachel in Friends.

I think I have hooded eyes, so I’ve googled tutorials on You Tube and follow that. It still looks shit.

Where am I going wrong? Any insights or suggestions from anyone?

I have dark eyes, dark hair and olive skin - I would’ve thought a relatively easy complexion to work with.

@MarisPiper92

You want about a finger clear of your eyebrow so it's not clownish.

@BeagleEagle (because you sound like you know what you're doing!) - any ideas for those of us who don't have a finger gap between eye and brow? Mine are ridiculously close together, and along with hooded and downturned eyes I'm starting to think the best eyeshadow look for me is none.

You just want it high enough so it peeks above your crease when you open your eyes, and you don't want it so high that it reaches your brow. If in doubt, a more neutral colour will be fine higher in that area if you've got less space between lid and brow. I love the palm beach colour of the bobbin brown stick I mentioned and it's hard to go wrong with it, but it is a beautiful colour.

Thank you, that makes sense! Off to dig the palettes out now...

Thanks so much all - will work through these suggestions. As it is, I do just not wear eyeshadow. I have long eyelashes that don’t need curling, so I’m at least grateful on that front.

When I get it professionally done it looks great, so I know it can be done. Just not by me!

So the brush is the real techniques defining crease brush number 304. Not sure you can get it by itself - it’s in a few of the sets. Really good brush. I’ve also heard the morphe M506 is really good as well, similar shape to the RT one

Thank you!
