Toast clothes - disappointed in quality?

My friend is a big Toast fan and keeps recommending them - in December I gave in and bought an expensive dressing gown. It was lovely, and I finally chucked it in the washing machine... only for the sleeves to come out considerably shorter!

I know cotton always shrinks a bit, but this one shrank to a ridiculous degree - and I washed it in 30 degrees.

At their price I would have expected much better. Has anyone else had problems?

I think their quality isn't as good as it was. I've had a few issues with poor quality knitwear and a blouse had holes after a couple of washes. I started shopping with them 20 years ago but now just buy the pyjamas in the sale.

I don't buy a lot from Toast, but have always been more than satisfied. If you've washed according to instructions, I'd return it.

Overpriced for what it is I think. +£200 for Chinese cashmere, I don't think so when you can get it for £60 elsewhere.

White Company is another that has dropped in quality, but not in price too.

Cashmere can vary in quality. The highest quality is mongolian cashmere and it is very expensive. Not sure what Toast use but I imagine it will be very good quality. Some of the cheaper cashmere wont last and has something coated so that while it feels great to touch in the hand when bought, is poor quality when washed.

I have a mongolian cashmere jumper from Hush from many years ago. It is stunning quality. Sadly, they don't seen ti use mongolian cashmere anymore. You can feel the difference in quality as I bought a few more cashmere jumpers from them and they no longer state it is mongolian cashmere. Another company that has gone up in price and quality is shit now..

My older toast items are amazing quality, but last summer I bought a shirt that developed a hole after a few washes as the material was so thin and flimsy.

Pigtailsandall · 07/03/2021 20:35

Thanks all, I might drop an email to them. So disappointed as the gown itself is lovely!

@Fortherosesjoni70 I never buy Chinese cashmere because it can be cruelly produced and I certainly wouldn't pay +£200 for it. You're right about Mongolian cashmere 100 ciels used and it traceable and they are the most divine sweaters. Reasonably priced too.
