Trainers not for sport

I’m after some trainers for spring/summer, I’d like them to look nice but they do need to be comfortable. I’m early 50s and not fashionable but don’t want to look as if I’ve completely given up ... I’ve seen some trainers I like at Hobbs and Mint Velvet, just not sure how comfortable they would be & wondered if anyone’s tried them? Thanks x

I like European brands like Rieker, Gabor and Remonte for non-sport trainers. Next often do their own brand similar versions, cheaper usually but not so comfy or hardwearing. There's lots of styles so although some might be something my Mum would wear, others are v stylish, imo.

Im very happy with my Superga flatforms. Simple and comfy

IrisW · 07/03/2021 13:02

Superga and Converse, or Air and Grace trainers (more expensive) are all nice I think.

ExcusesAndAccusations · 07/03/2021 13:05

Converse gave me crippling plantar fasciitis so I wouldn’t recommend them.

midsomermurderess · 07/03/2021 13:07

These are plimsolls (what a lovely word) rather than trainers. They are comfy, quite a thick sole Novesta Star

VanCleefArpels · 07/03/2021 13:13

Boden chunky trainers are lovely (but pricey at £110) - comfy but stylish

Strumpetpumpet · 07/03/2021 13:41

Ooh thank you all, I’m going to have a good browse through those x

Air and Grace. Expensive but so comfortable and really well made - I’ve worn mine nearly every day for two years and they are still in great condition Smile

Disfordarkchocolate · 08/03/2021 18:31

Air and Grace look great, just twice my budget.

VenusClapTrap · 08/03/2021 19:13

Op I’m looking for the same sort of thing, and I’ve been looking at Mint Velvet too, but just not quite convinced.

I like the look of the Air & Grace ones with stars on, but they are a bit pricey.

mightykerfuffle · 08/03/2021 19:19

I had some Air & Grace - they were ok but not a patch on Veja which are half the price ,so comfortable and look great. Much lighter to wear than Boden trainers which I've also had.

ilovetomatoes · 08/03/2021 19:21

For the air and grace are they suitable for wide feet?

MargosKaftan · 08/03/2021 19:55

I'm currently trying to decide between a pair of new balance or some nike daybreak trainers. (New Balance are cheaper)

I have some veja trainers that are ok but I don't find them the most comfy for a long walk. I cant wear converse without my feet hurting.

LynetteScavo · 08/03/2021 19:58

We all wear Vejas at work, we're all 40+.

VenusClapTrap · 09/03/2021 11:17

Now I’m thinking about these Allbirds.

Look up ‘Does My Bum Look 40’ - she recently did a whole blog post dedicated to (mostly green) trainers, and has done others.

Imtoooldforallthis · 13/03/2021 07:14

I've just ordered these.

The Veja trainers probably looked the best of the trainers I have tried recently but they were not comfortable enough for me. The search continues ...

Disfordarkchocolate · 13/03/2021 08:53

I went for some leather Chuck Taylor but I'm planning on getting some of these for a bit of colour www.naturalworldeco-shop.com/uk/old-lavanda-102e.html/#92=56
