First time starting a thread in S&B. I've never been very interested in my appearance and so know very little about beauty products and the like, but now that I'm very late 40s, my eyebrows and eyelashes are basically going transparent (combined with menopausal thinning - what fun Sad)

If I wanted to dye/tint my eyebrows, what product and shade would I buy that's readily available online...? And is there anything safe for doing the same to eyelashes at home? Without mascara my already short and sparse eyelashes are invisible, but even waterproof mascara smudges on my upper eyelids within a couple of hours. Is there any product that helps prevent that?

Please don't suggest going to a salon to sort out my brows. I've literally been to a hairdresser once in over 20 years. I dye my own hair at home and DH cuts it for me because it's just long and straight, so very low maintenance Grin

If you experts advise against trying anything more permanent at home, I'd rather stick with mascara and eyebrow pencil. Was just hoping that there'd be something that means I don't have to even do that for a few weeks at a time.

Pics of my almost invisible eyebrow and my hair colour, attached. Hopefully the hair photo reproduces the colour realistically - it's basically a mid to dark ash blonde.

Thanks! Smile

Bizarrely enough just for men is very good for dying eyebrows. There is a light brown that would possibly be the best colour match and I'd just leave it on for a few mins abs then judge it to get the best colour.

There's also lash dye you can use eyelure is a popular brand. I find it a bit of a faff to do my lashes but the results are really good.

Thanks youmakemydreamscometrue - I'll take a look at those brands. And now's the ideal time for me to try this for the first time because I don't really see anyone other than DH and the kids, so it won't be a big deal if it's a disaster Grin

I have the same colouring as you - in fact my eyebrows and eyelashes are blonder. I use dyelash at home. Its so easy (but ive been doing it for years). Use the black. Honestly its just better - but just a couple of mins with your eyebrows, and as long as you can handle it for your eyelashes (it can sting a bit). Also use revitalash. Its expensive but its made my short, sparse, barely there eyelashes into camels eyelashes in 6 weeks. Its bloody amazing.

Im like you - low maintenance, dont go to the hairdresser at all - and this is all i do. I live in australia so my eyelashes and eyebrows get almost white if i dont use sunnies all the time afterwards.

Oh and when you do your eyebrows dont freak out about how dark they look the first day or so. You want them to be too dark at first. Cos then they settle and it lasts for weeks.

Thanks!! This revitalash product - does it actually make your eyelashes longer than they naturally would be? DH and both DS's have eyelashes like fecking cows Envy whereas mine have never been any longer than this - just used to be thicker.

I'll have a look into revitalash - thank you.

Have a look at refectocil on amazon. I think you are too fair for black and would choose one of the lighter colours.
A tube of refectocil lasts for ages. You buy a mixing agent to go with it.
I use light brown and have darker hair than you.

MountainPeakGeek · 07/03/2021 06:02

Yes, I think trying a lighter shade initially probably makes sense as I can more easily go darker if I'm not happy with the first result.

Also, bearing in mind my age, I would prefer to have a natural looking colour because I've never had really defined brows. I don't want to suddenly look very different and I don't actually want them dark - just not barely visible as they are right now.

yeah Revitalash makes them really really long...sometimes i have to stop using it cos it makes them too long and it looks weird.

If you go lighter with dyelash, you will have to do it more regularly, and you sound like me and you want minimum fuss. Up to you of course. x

Black for my eyelashes sounds good. I thought you meant both and had visions of looking like I'd Sharpied on my eyebrows 🤣

The worst thing about revitalash is that when you get an eyelash in your eye, they feel MASSIVE Grin
