Basic white top, sleeves, like Hush but not as pricey?

Hi,

I'm looking to get some basic items but surprisingly struggling! I just want a nice white top to where with jeans or leather leggings so if has to go past my belly but almost a jersey feel rather than too clingy. I just bought some from H&M but they are clingy. Hush seem to do decent stuff so not too thick or thin but seems pricey and ideally I would like something with sleeves too. Any thoughts? Hopefully I'm not being too vague!

Similar to this. I'm not even sure how Hush sizes work. What's a 14/16

What's your budget? Have you looked in M&S, Uniqlo, Zara, H&M, Wish, Fat face & Mango?

Eesha · 10/03/2021 09:58

@Caramelwhispers perhaps 30 at most. I've had a look at Uniqlo and Marks but they seem clingy. Mango seem to have better so might order there. Hush seems good too but short sleeved.

Cos have plain white long sleeve t-shirts.

Caramelwhispers · 10/03/2021 13:22

With clingy, close fit tops I always buy one or two sizes up so I get a semi fitted style.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 10/03/2021 13:37

Hush has plentyofshoet sleeved tops. Sizing is generous - so 14/16 order 14 or L usually, but look at the reviews as it varies from item to item whether they are just slightly or very generous (most tops are meant to be looser fitting).

I'd look at uniqlo for cheaper pricepoint - XL probably for tops, tjough I have L trousers which are at least a 16 even though the size table wrongly indicated they were closer to a 10/12 (ordered them for DD but they were far too big for her).

I only have one t shirt from fatface but it is lovely and soft, like Hushstuff is,and these are reduced to £17 www.fatface.com/women/clothing/tops-t-shirts/ivy-t-shirt/960581.html?dwvar_960581_color=white#q=t+shirt&prefn1=gender&prefv1=Women&start=6

Not sure how much the Hush one was, but this is nice from Cos

Eesha · 10/03/2021 20:28

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme this looks ideal but does it come up tight fitting? I'm debating a 16, I'm 38GG bust

I was going to suggest to size up, unless you have very narrow shoulders.

Eesha · 10/03/2021 21:43

Just purchased the fatface ones to try, size 16!

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 11/03/2021 05:07

Hope it fits Eesha I'm honestly not sure - I don't have that exact top and am now a 34 F, having lost some weight recently. I used to be a 38G and was a size 22 then, but obviously weight sits differently on different people and presumably the rest of you is much slimmer at that bra size than I was! Fatface stuff is fairly generous so if you wear a 16 in most brands it should be good!

Pogostemon · 11/03/2021 07:03

Boden T shirts can be really good. They can also be not good... it’s impossible to tell without trying them on. Luckily, their returns are pretty easy.

Eesha · 13/03/2021 19:46

Fatface 16 still felt a bit stiff and did nothing for me so ill be returning them. Ideally something looser will be required.

Try Next dolman jersey tops. I have two and they sweep past everything-finish below hip.

If you want short sleeve their cap sleeve t-shirts are excellent and don't cling.

PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit · 13/03/2021 20:06

here... khaki is a lovely shade but they do it in white too. I have the black as well.

Forgot to add- they are only a tenner. Am impressed with Next basics this year.

Ironfloor269 · 13/03/2021 20:13

OP, have you tried Arket?

Eesha · 13/03/2021 20:23

@PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit would that neckline be too high for a busty 38GG?

OP posts:
PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit · 13/03/2021 20:28

Eesha - it is not a crew neck so probably worth a shot- maybe size up so it drapes I would suggest. Pic here gives a better idea of neck line ...

Eesha · 13/03/2021 20:29

@Ironfloor269 this looks nice but wasnt sure if it will be a loose fit. Im usually 14/16 which is a medium but its sold out so perhaps a large might work?

OP posts:
UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 14/03/2021 10:43

Eesha a 38 GG won't be a 16 in many shops, it's an over bust measurement of 119cm / 46 inches. I was that size last year and honestly you'll get a more flattering fit if you go up to an 18 or 20 - nobody is looking at the size label when you're wearing a comfortable, well fitting top!

Eesha · 14/03/2021 10:48

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme thats a good point as for dresses, i sometimes get an 18 so it's less tight on the bust. I just thought the fatface material was a bit thick and wanted something a bit floatier.
