Collagen?

Considering buying some sachets from absolute collagen - (the ads for which have been popping up at me all week!)

Has anyone taken this or another brand and had results?

The science is so shaky though, studies run by the companies themselves & promo videos with extrovert women animatedly saying “people never believe I’m in my 50’s!!!” But you look at them and think well I have no problem believing your 50’s. If they start looking like their in their 30’s I’ll take out a subscription and be spamming this board like a good’un.

No one has ever answered my questions on how the body knows a specific amino acid is only for skin & hair when it’s been broken down and is about to be reformulated & I always found it interesting how we can reformulate a chicken nugget into human tissue. I ate haggis this week but it doesn’t mean my lungs have been replenished with lamb lung goodness I probably used it for cell division in the rapidly used cells lining the alimentary track because they’ve constantly got food rubbing against them or fixing the scald I got on my hand yesterday.

You know who usually look surprisingly good for their age? Long term vegans, who have a collagen free diet while the rest of us stuff ourselves on meat & fish 🤨

"studies run by the companies themselves"

I presume there have been independent studies as this woman says she didn't take companies' own studies into account.

There's a range of options between long-term vegan and stuffing yourself with meat and fish! Are there any studies to show that long-term vegans look better, or are perceived by others as being younger?

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/03/2021 22:17

I don’t know 🤨maybe it’s just the ones I know, they put a lot of effort in to cooking & avoid junk. A low insulin diet is also touted as increasing longevity compared to the western high calorie diet.

The thing is that if something works it ought to be repeatable. So if we all drank a bottle of wine we’d all feel inebriated to some extent. If we all put tretonoin on regularly you’d expect skin to look younger, If we all had a chest infection and took antibiotics you expect the infection to go.

So why doesn’t collagen work for everyone?. If it is that easy to look younger then I’ll do it and stop all this healthy living bollocks, drink wine every night & live on junk food but I don’t think it’s that easy. If it was the people selling it would all look 21.

Lollypop701 · 14/03/2021 22:32

What’s the difference between Trentonoin and retinoids? Thought they were the same?

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/03/2021 23:01

Trets stronger.

Well, you can ask the same thing about veganism can't you?
Even Tretinoin, there's good science behind it, but not everybody gets it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/03/2021 23:32

It would have a noticeable effect though, even if you got red peeling skin you’d be able to tell you’d used it. Why don’t the people on insta selling look better with no filters.

It smacks of cod science. If I eat liver my liver won’t get a boost.

I've got a tube of RetiRides (Tretinoin I got in Spain). I probably don't use it often enough, but it's done nothing for me so far. That doesn't mean I think it's all BS.
Fluffycloudland77 · 14/03/2021 23:48

Put it on regularly. It won’t work in the tube.

Unfortunately I was so lazy about it, it's out of date now and I can't go back to Spain! It did have a duration of about a year and a half, which is better than some other brands I'd heard of. I will still use it, but I presume it's lost some of its potency now.

I think the science is actually pretty convincing. However, I've been taking Vital Proteins in my cappuccino and it's not really doing anything obvious for me.

Well, I now see this is an old thread I've already posted on!

silveryslade · 15/10/2021 17:00

I was allergic. Came out in hives. On my face! Fish collagen. Sad
