How would you style this dress?

Help!

I bought this dress for a wedding of a very dear friend of mine a year ago. The wedding has now been postponed twice but hopefully going ahead in September. I still love the dress and obviously haven't had any other occasion to wear it but I'm stuck on what shoes to wear with it. What colour/style would you suggest?

I'm not averse to heels although I haven't worn any in a loooong time. Would love to make it look a bit edgier with a boot but not sure I'm brave enough to do that at a wedding?

Good ol’ John Lewis sell decent hats too if you look under ‘occasion hats’.

Maybe some jewellery? But might look cluttered with the bag, hat, shoes. Some delicate layered bracelets/bangles maybe?

The Whistles sandals are pretty.

Please don't wear nude court shoes. They make my soul die a little just thinking about them.

I did say i was possibly old fashioned - I knew someone would say this!

Aw don't worry @CaptainWentworth . They are the go-to for wedding outfits. I'm desperately trying to avoid looking like a middle aged mum at a wedding look though. Even though that's exactly what I am!!

Sorry, CaptainWentworth. I used to be ColonelBrandon on here, so I do hope you'll forgive a fellow Janeite! :)

I still think you should go with the boots though, OP. Nobody is likely to notice/care, and you'll get far more wear out of them than sandals.

I think a pretty, floaty little dress like that needs strappy sandals. Boots would be too heavy in my opinion.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 04/03/2021 20:34

I really like the boots they are styled with in the pictures

Some elegant shoe boots would be great with this dress...still dressy but edgy.

I really like that dress. I love how they’ve styled it in pic tbh with those boots. The only ‘smart’ shoes I have are a pair of Black what I call court shoes with an almond toe. They go with every single dress I’ve ever owned. They’d go with this dress. I’d also wear my heeled ankle boots for. Slightly edgier look.

@massistar

Thanks CaptainWentworth. I was a bit taken aback by that too but most other posters have liked the dress so think I'm good.

Found these whilst looking at your links which might be good compromise?

Or maybe these ones?

To be honest I think by the time the wedding comes around we'll all be so overjoyed to be out partying nobody will give a monkeys!

I think either of these are perfect! I love the dress. A wrap would be lovely instead of a jacket. There are some lovely wide scarves that you could wear as a wrap. Enjoy the wedding and I hope it goes ahead, you will look fab in that dress!

Thanks so much everyone! I'm keeping an eye on the Mint Velvet boots to see if they go on sale as I can't quite bring myself to spend £150 at the moment when I'm still primarily in joggers and trainers! As wedding not till September I'll probably get some sandals in the summer sale.

Like the idea of a wrap rather than a jacket but as it's all indoors it's likely to get slung over the back of a chair anyway!
