Socks

Okay not the most exciting thread, but I'm in the process of overhauling my wardrobe and throwing out everything that's poor quality and worn out, and replacing with good quality nice stuff. I've realised that most of my socks are old, faded, and probably from supermarkets. Where do people recommend buying decent, comfortable socks? Just comfy socks for under ankle boots, not too thick but not too thin. Budget-wise, not too expensive. Don't want to be paying £10 a pair or anything but sick of my 3 pairs for £2 Asda socks.

I get my ankle socks from John Lewis. They're about £12 for a few pairs, can't remember how many!

greenlynx · 02/03/2021 12:55

Will socks be visible?

Laquila · 02/03/2021 13:00

I'm a big fan of bamboo socks from BAM, especially when it's cold - they're lovely and soft, and don't wear through. All my nice fine ones from JL and M&S wear through on the heels so quickly.

(This is for normal socks, by the way - trainer socks are useless and I've never found any that manage to both stay up and not show 🙄)

VinylDetective · 02/03/2021 13:01

I don’t think you can beat M&S.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 02/03/2021 13:06

I've just bought a load of socks from Glassworks London, loads of colours and designs.

WrinklesShminkles · 02/03/2021 13:12

John Lewis I think do the best basic socks. M&S socks are too tight on the leg.

ashmts · 02/03/2021 13:15

@greenlynx

Will socks be visible?
Probably not, I tend to wear skinny jeans or leggings tucked into boots. Not one for the cropped trend. Although I just got the DM Leonore boots and saw a girl wearing them with coated black jeans slightly above the boot and pink ankle socks between and it did look good.

I usually buy socks with about 60% of cotton (with silk or cashmere when possible) in M&S or JL.

BAM, We Are Thought

CeibaTree · 02/03/2021 13:33

We just replaced all of our socks with Nordic Socks. They are comfy and warm - what more could you want from socks :)

ashmts · 02/03/2021 13:55

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'll have a look in all those places.

I love BAM socks too For some reason they send me a free pair about 3 times a year. No idea why, I have never bought anything from them
BikeRunSki · 02/03/2021 14:01

@CeibaTree, I had to give my Nordic Socks to the DC, they were too small for me.

Laquila · 02/03/2021 14:52

@Hoppinggreen, my mum says the same! Weird, but at least she passes them all on to me 😁

Oh dear, that's a shame. The size I got fits both me and DH - although I have to wear a pair first as he can't get them on on the first wear!

They send my mum some too, which I also get
It’s a total mystery why but they keep coming, not that I’m complaining

waltzingparrot · 02/03/2021 17:06

I get mine from TK Maxx. Always bamboo socks - they're lovely.

I have got 2 pairs of nordic socks from www.thenordicsocks.com/ , they are so soft and cozy

Gimmeaminute · 03/06/2021 11:33

@Hoppinggreen, they have stopped sending me freebies and I’m quite miffed! Love their socks but have discovered their rolltop socks aren’t as nice as the freebie pairs (got some as a gift and hate them!).

Seasalt also so really nice socks which are often discounted.

DanielODonkey · 03/06/2021 11:42

Nordic Socks are cosy.
Powder do some lovely bright bamboo socks. I have a turquoise pair with tigers on them.

BlueQ do a fab range of socks - I have a selection. Quite sweary phrases on then with funny pictures.

Joules socks are durable.

John Lewis own brand Halloween themed socks also have last quite a few years.

I refuse to wear black or plain socks these days. Life is too short to wear plain socks. So I adorn my feet with colours, pictures and swear words.

Redruby2020 · 03/06/2021 12:09

I've had quite a few from Tkmaxx, they were mostly trainer socks etc, but good quality as they do so many names as you probably know. I have had ankle socks too and they were also okay.
Yes I know what you mean about the Asda packs etc, I have fallen in to that trap with underwear etc and find things don't wash up well, and then you start getting fraying threads etc.
Mark's and Spencer are another possible option for you. As they do have a few things that I think are better quality.
Even TU at Sainsbury’s.
