Mine are pretty shocking now. I managed to survive last lockdown without resorting to using anything but this time its pretty bad (last appt early Dec)..... and 6 weeks til reopening.... and then still waiting for an actual appointment.

Anyone got any home methods that have worked?

I've turned mine pale pink with pink shampoo and conditioner. It waahes out. I'm not taking bleach to thw roots as it would probably end in disaster

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 02/03/2021 09:18

I put a brown on my roots and combed it down through my ends my hair is now balayaged and I love it

BillieSpain · 02/03/2021 09:24

Mine is growing out greyish Shock I really have to do something.

I have got a schwarzcopf highlighting kit Nordic Blonde (used years ago and like the colour) and will do a few highlights here and there. Not whole head, just something to blend a tiny bit. DD will trim. Hmm

Let's hope this works.

This sounds fab, are you able to share a photo? What brown did you use?

I'm just leaving it. It looks better styled, than tied back, so do it properly when at work etc. Trying to see it as giving my hair a break.

ExConstance · 02/03/2021 09:41

I'm in the same boat as you, Happy, my highlights were last done just before Christmas and I have got an appointment on 20 April. Up until now it was not too bad but my fringe was the same colour as the darker roots, with the blonde bits at the side, also an alarming amount of grey under my fringe and around the temples. I was a bit worried about DIY but tried Clairol natural Instinct in light blonde last Friday. The grey is reduced and there is a general pale mousiness all over my hair, which is an improvement, but it is not really me and I can't wait to get it sorted out properly. If it wears off very quickly I might try a pale blonde next time, just to even things out a bit again, fortunately I remembered that all hair dye is a lot darker on than you expect from the packet.

Wella colour refresh mask! I have greying mid brown hair with caramel highlights and I used the chocolate one. It covered my greys but did darken my hair quite a lot. It faded evenly over about 2 weeks. I’m going to try either the caramel or golden one next to see if that works better and matches my highlights.

Touloser · 02/03/2021 09:47

Using fanola no yellow mask to tone it all a more silvery/blue colour, which makes the roots blend in a lot more

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 02/03/2021 10:10

Sorry it's not styled this morning but you get the idea 😂😂 it was very blonde before lockdown. It was a garnier brown I used

I've got bleached hair, it looks a state right now with really dark roots, i won't touch it though as it'll probably fall out if i do :-D
I do keep using purple shampoo though to stop the colour going brassy

RacheyCat · 02/03/2021 11:34

@GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough, snap! We're not in lockdown - I just got sick of paying for root shadows at the salon and then having it fade to nasty orange after two washes. And the fact that they kept bleaching right up to my roots before doing the colour. I need off this bleaching and dying merry-go-round so I stuck a load of permeant dye on the top and painted on roots. It looks pretty good down or in a low pony tail, but up it's a disaster. Am toning with Artic Fox's grey colour every two weeks or so.

I'd like to wait for it all to grow out and then have a more subtle balayage.

I’m leaving mine; my hairdresser cautioned against doing anything that would then take her double the time to sort out. Last lockdown my roots were worse but it didn’t seem so bad because I really didn’t see anyone but this time it’s not ended up that way

NoMoreMuchin · 02/03/2021 11:40

@GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough
I think your hair looks beautiful!
Can I ask, how long did you leave it on the roots and how long on the ends... I want to try to replicate your results Smile

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 02/03/2021 12:07

I just followed the instructions on the box for timing 😂😂 put it on the roots probably about 2/3 inches and then combed it through the rest. I havnt made it to the hairdressers since the first lockdown as work as been so manic and I couldn't get an appointment between my shifts fortunately someone at work managed to trim it for me 😂

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 02/03/2021 12:10

@NoMoreMuchin it all went on for 20/30 mins it's was a hope the best situation 😂

peridito · 02/03/2021 12:20

watching with interest ,same mindset as user1493....

FlowersAreBeautiful · 02/03/2021 12:24

I bought a Josh wood colour after seeing it recommended on MN. Boxed colours ALWAYS turn my roots orange so didn't want to risk it again. Also the blonde was also brassy looking whenever I did it. But the Josh wood colour is lovely. I'll probably go for a lighter colour next time. But it did lighten the roots to a dark blonde so it looks much better and has sort of blended it with the blonder ends. Also smells amazing

BumbleNova · 02/03/2021 12:30

@FlowersAreBeautiful which colour did you go for? What is your natural shade?

I thought the Josh wood was only good for grey coverage and wouldn't change / lighten hair?

NoMoreMuchin · 02/03/2021 12:32

Thanks @GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough for a hope for the best situation it turned out very well.

Blyatiful · 02/03/2021 12:32

Root touch up when I am in U.K. but I grab any box in a medium blonde shade when I am at home (Eastern Europe). I do the grey around my face and then brush through in streaks along my parting. It doesn’t look too awful...

minniemoocher · 02/03/2021 12:36

This one gave up last March!

MrsMoastyToasty · 02/03/2021 12:41

I'm embracing the grey. I have dark brown hair with lots of grey.
I had already decided to go grey before the first lockdown and last had it coloured just before Christmas 2019. I had a trim in January 2020 and had about 6inches cut off in October. I've now got grey hair almost to chin level and I'm happy to wait for it to grow a bit more before having another trim.
I use products for grey and highlighted hair (touch of silver? ) and that helps keep the grey/white from looking dull and the highlighted ends from looking yellow.
