Bloody tiered dresses, grr

They are everywhere, these huge ditsy print tents of dresses which are neither summery (sleeves and polyester) or suitable to wear for anything except eating large quantities or frolicking in a meadow.
O.K. it was alright as a one season wonder last year, I bought one myself and decided it was a hard look for anyone of 5'3" to carry off but this year even the better makes have little else. Baukjen who made fitted dresses their speciality now have web pages full of milkmaids. this is one trend I can't wait to see the back of. I have not bought anything from Boden for years but have just placed an order because it is relatively tier-free. Am I the only one?

Not all tiered dresses are polyester, unless you've only looked at fast fashion high street stores...

It's a nice trend but if this carries on into 2022 then I'll have had enough Smile.

FreeButtonBee · 01/03/2021 18:37

I have the Milly one from baukjen and it’s one of my most worn dresses. Woolly cardi over the top in winter. Or birkies in summer. It’s 💯 cotton. Not See through and I am 5 3! I love them so much. But lots of ugly polyester ones I agree.

ValentinePomLePom · 01/03/2021 18:48

I can't wear them but I am only teensie -however my lovely leggy sister doesn't suit them either.
They make everyone look huge.
So unflattering.

oohyoudevilyou · 01/03/2021 18:49

Agree that most of the supermarket ones are vile. They wouldn't flatter me, but I'm the complete opposite of the waifs that model them: Doubt the designers had fat, gobby, cross-looking 40-somethings in mind as target though Grin

PeacheyPeach · 01/03/2021 19:01

I hate how people pose on instagram in these dresses. They always seem to he swooping it up at one side. So you cant even see how they even really look in them anyway... i look hideous in this style !!

WrongKindOfFace · 01/03/2021 19:07

They are not at all flattering on me either. Particularly not the high-necked ones.

PatchworkElmer · 01/03/2021 19:11

I look awful in these dresses- they hang off my (sizeable) boobs and completely hide my waist. I need a bit more shape to look half decent! I wish they suited me though, they look really comfy.

Littleguggi · 01/03/2021 20:39

Not going to lie but I love these dresses, I'm 5ft 2ins and a size 8. I have a tiny waist but larger hips and I feel these dresses help balance me out.

VinylDetective · 01/03/2021 20:48

I love them too. I’ve got them in cotton and linen, they’re perfect on hot summer days.

thedevilinablackdress · 01/03/2021 21:06

You don't like, you don't buy. Something else will be along soon.

ExConstance · 02/03/2021 12:24

It isn't that I mins them that much as a choice for some but there are just so many of them everywhere. In addition to m one dress I have got a tiered skirt from Hush. It is being modelled in the catalogue with the wearer leaning against a bicycle bedecked in flowers with her legs open and the fabric pulled up in gathers between them, a pout on her face. I'm not sure what type of customer this is supposed to attract maybe a Wurzels fan or someone obsessed with Tess of the D'Urbervilles ? Most odd

Or just someone who wants to buy a skirt. You’re really overthinking this!
LunaHeather · 02/03/2021 12:31

I had to google this because I had ra ra skirt in my head.

Some of them aren't that, in fact I have no idea why some of them are called tiered

But this

I've seen people wearing them belted, but that just adds another thing to put on when you're getting dressed to me. I'm on the look out for plain midi length t shirt dresses that aren't too sack like.

mxmxm · 02/03/2021 14:01

I’m 5’7 and fattish and they make me look like an enormous and slightly terrifying Dalek

so naturally I hate everyone who can pull them off Grin

FlyingByTheSeatof · 03/03/2021 05:22

I presumed they were mainly worn on those really hot summer days where you need something loose and flowing that won't stick to your body when you're walking around. That's when I wear mine.

MuddleMoo · 03/03/2021 05:27

They don't suit me at all which is a shame as I think they look great on other people

SarahBellam · 03/03/2021 06:50

If you’re 18, 6’ tall and wear them with great clumpy boots and a biker jacket you look amazing. If, like me, you’re 53, 5’3”, and on the generous end of a size 16, you look like a dalek wearing your nan’s curtains.

Weekday by H&M. they're not exciting colours but they do cotton t-shirt midi dresses which are incredibly comfortable and not so baggy as to be completely unflattering!
stampsurprise · 03/03/2021 10:15

As if COVID tiers weren’t enough now we have bloody dress tiers Grin

ginandwineandbaileys · 03/03/2021 16:57

It's not just tired dresses, it's those huge bloody comedy collars. I've seen some that are down to the waist

Loopyloututu2 · 03/03/2021 20:34

I know what you mean about the styling of that floral hush skirt OP - I thought the same - it’s a bit pornographic in a “milkmaid hitching up her skirt to milk the cows” kind of way! I’m uhhming and ahhing about ordering that skirt - how do you find it on you? (I’m 5”8”)

dudsville · 03/03/2021 20:38

This.

When I was 17 asunder a size nothing I looked elegant in this. Now 53 and a 14 I look very dalekesque.

dudsville · 03/03/2021 20:39

Not asunder, never asunder. I never use asunder in a sentence. Ffs.

ParisJeTAime · 03/03/2021 20:52

I like them, but I also dislike polyester. I hadn't noticed that they were, although I've bought a few dresses from Hush lately and was a bit Hmm they were polyester as although they weren't ££££, they also weren't cheap! Actually ended up sending them back. So yeah...fucking...grrrr!
