Straighteners - Babyliss v GHD?

Does anyone have an opinion on Babyliss Platinum Diamond straighteners?

They were reduced from £100 to £50 in Boots today and I was a bit tempted (my GHDs are approaching their 12th birthday and won't last forever) but memories of false economies in lower brand straighteners held me back!

Obviously I've only used GHDs for 12 years and undoubtedly a snob for the brand, but have things in the straightener market improved? Would the Babyliss be a good replacement or should I wait until my beloved old friends die and then suck it up and replace with new GHDs?

Have GHDs even held their quality and reputation over the years?!?

Thanks in advance for your wisdom!

I have both and the Babyliss ones are miles better. I don't use the GHDs at all. They snag my hair while the Babyliss ones glide through. Like you, i saw them reduced and thought I'd give them a go and im so glad i did.

I loved my GHDs, but when they broke I got Remington ones that were £15 in the sale (reduced from £45) and they have been fab! Based on where I was working and who it was who gave me the heads up about the HoF sale at the time I'd say I bought them in 2008/09/10... can't quite remember but they go back years... I'll be gutted when they eventually wear out. My hair is fairly straight anyway though and not that thick so maybe I just don't need the oomph of GHDs?? Will replace with either babyliss or gamble on another pair of budget Remington ones and hope it pays off again...

The people who made GHD sold the brand and have gone on to set up cloud nine. I would have a look at them.

I have Cloud 9 and they knock the socks off the GHDs Ive had over the past 15 years!

lolulop · 28/02/2021 13:14

I want cloud 9 after reading reviews

VerityWibbleWobble · 28/02/2021 13:40

Get Cloud 9s, they are so much better than GHDs are these days.

noname55 · 28/02/2021 13:42

I use cheap Babyliss ones but I had a go of my friend's cloud 9s a while ago and they are amazing!

my GHDs are approaching their 12th birthday and won't last forever

I’ve had my GHDs since the late nineties and they’re still going strong, so you could have a good few more years out of them yet! Smile

Thanks all! I took the plunge and went for the Babyliss ones! Interesting to know about Cloud 9 though, something to bear in mind for the future!

I've got GHD at home and my ones that I keep in the office are Morphy Richards. To be honest I think the Morphy Richards are better. Certainly the Young Things who have borrowed them have said how good they are. I'm not sure if I'd get another set of GHDs.
