Design me a summer wardrobe!

Hi all - I’ve never been very good at summer dressing. I love autumn/winter clothes - jumpers, coats, boots, velvets, cashmere etc - but have never discovered a summer style that I either liked or felt comfortable in.

Things got worse over the last few years as I put on lots of weight, ending up at a size 22 last summer. I didn’t like how I looked generally so made even less effort with clothes.

However since then I’ve lost quite a lot of weight and by this summer I will be size 14-16. I’ve got quite heavy upper arms and legs but my middle bit is ok :)

I buy my clothes mainly from Baukjen, m&s autograph, casual bits from seasalt. My ideal style, money no object is probably something like max mara or slightly Parisian chic. Nothing very adventurous!!

Can anyone recommend some key pieces for me to get this summer? I don’t mind spending on quality items if I’m going to get lots of wear out of them.

I hate summer dressing! Give me jeans, jumpers, boots and coats any day!! I have a simple but effective summer wardrobe that is a black tea dress style midi dress, a denim dress (with thin straps and one with shoulders), a pair of linen culottes, some simple white/cream boxy style T-shirt’s and blouses that I wear with jeans or jean shorts. A black jumpsuit and a few holiday style dresses!! I have one flowery style sun dress for hot days!! My summer style is very plain and simple - a pair of white Vejas and some black &other stories sandals. I don’t tend to go on summer holidays as I prefer snow so it all works well here in the UK!! This year I may add a denim play suit...

I was and am a similar size to you! Was a 22, now down to a 16 and hoping to be a bit slimmer by summer. I like patterned trousers and plain tops, with white trainers or sandals. However, this year I'm hopeful that I'll wear high waisted shorts with a t shirt tucked in!

Thanks @SarBear1980 and @ThisIsNotARealAvo - glad to hear I’m not the only one more comfortable in autumn/winter clothes!

I like the sound of keeping it simple: I’ll focus on some key things like in your list @SarBear1980 and see how it goes.

@ThisIsNotARealAvo - despite the lack of clothes, I’m looking forward to this summer a lot more. Last summer was very uncomfortable when I was bigger. I think summer clothing is more difficult for bigger people than cold weather dressing.
