Just cut my own hair with thinning scissors!

My appt was 5 th January so it was cancelled. Previous cut was the start of Oct so my previous longish blunt Bob was very grown out and blocky. So I ordered thinning scissors and just went for it. What a revelation! It doesn’t look half bad! Admittedly I’ve not touched the length or fringe so it’s still straight at the ends, but it feels so much better. I’d encourage anyone thinking about doing the same to just do it.

I’ve done mine twice since the first lockdown just with crappy scissors. I’ve now ordered myself a decent pair of hairdressing scissors for the next time as it has turned out pretty good both times.
Slightly scary when you first start to cut though!

Yes @Disressingtimes I was worried when I started to cut, but glad I did now.
I won’t pretend it’s as good as a professional cut, the back could do with more coming out but I’m not confident where I can’t see it.
It’s better than hating it until April anyway!

I did that the first lockdown, with thinning shears. It made such a difference. When I finally got it cut my hairdresser wasn't too pleased. He said that thinning shears ruin your hair. I wasn't bothered, I needed to do something.

Cut to now.The last time I had my haircut was October, and was due for an appointment just when they shut in Jan. so my hair is big and v.long. I have today cut in a few layers at the front, but used straight hairdressing scissors rather than the thinning ones. But I am tempted to go back and use the shears.

Yeh I was at that point... I had to do something.
I’m kind of guessing my hairdresser isn’t going to be pleased, as she’s posting on FB a lot about people dying and cutting their own hair - but it’s my hair and I’m the one that has to live with it and look in the mirror every day!

It's our hair at the end of the day. If we think it is the best thing to do for now, then that's what we have to do. We pay them for a service so it's irrelevant what they say on Facebook. These are not normal times!

VanGoghsDog · 26/02/2021 23:02

Which thinning scissors did you get? My hair grows bigger at the back, rather than longer, and the underneath layers need thinning or I look like a mushroom.

It's upsetting because it's so very thin at the front now, you can see my scalp :( But I might as well make what I have got look decent.

Mellonsprite · 26/02/2021 23:07

@VanGoghsDog Nothing, I just ordered from Amazon, for about £6.
My hair is much thinner at the front,I take immunosuppressants so that doesn’t help! I have a high forehead too.
I think to some extent it’s normal to have more at the back, as there’s a lot more scalp if that makes sense?

Meant to say nothing special.
