What tights to go with this dress?

I bought this today. I am going to a very, very swish do in a very, very swish place in upstate NY on Wednesday and my 'experience manager' rang to tell me that there would be a black tie event so I should bring a cocktail dress. I am more than a little concerned about appearing like a poor relation as I am not used to mixing in such places/circles
The dress is v nice on but I need to know what tights to wear. I will be wearing a pair of chunky black suede sandals so I think that black opaques are the way to go.
I also have a pair of very high court shoes that I could wear but they are really not comfortable.
I have no time for shopping as I am travelling on Tuesday morning. So what tights should I wear?

I would go for plain blck as sheer as possible and if you need a bit of help around hte middle then get the controlled.

Posh heels

No I am a size 16 and 5'10 but my calves are HUGE and really prevent the wearing of patterned tights

No the ballet shoes will only be back up for very late in the night. Seriously the courts are fab but really high and agony, so dancing would be out of the question in them, and I might have to dance.

No Cod I live in Surrey.

Stick the ballet shoes in your bag but only wear them if you cannot walk another step. The dress calls out for heels.

BeetrootMNRoyalty · 04/11/2007 21:04

these shoes

Carmenere · 04/11/2007 21:05

I have super hold it all in underwear that goes from beneath the bra to the knees

or these

DrNortherner · 04/11/2007 21:07

NO don't take the pumps or you will wear them. It's one night only. You must sufffer.

You can retreat to slipperdom when safeley ensconsed in hotel room.

Carmenere · 04/11/2007 21:07

Oh I love those second ones Beetroot but no time for shopping unfortunatley

I really weant the second ones

Carmenere · 04/11/2007 21:09

Now I am probably being incredibly optimistic because American dinners do tend to be a bit dull don't they(I mean 2 glasses of wine max). But if there is dancing I will need the ballet slippers but I suppose I could just go and get them from the room.

Dance shoeless?

Carmenere · 04/11/2007 21:16

Is shoeless acceptable? I'll play it by ear.
thanks all, it is exactly the type of thing I would normally do. I mena not think about it and just throw black tights and sandals into my case and on the night fell really uncomfortable and unsophisticated with tight-clad opentoed sandals.
