Taking a deep breath and posting here.
Hoping to get (kind) advice..

I am mid 30s and this is my hair at the moment. Its very aging and I have no idea what to do with it.

I recently tried to do my 'colours' even buying one of those 'colour me beautiful' books. I'm still none the wiser what on earth will suit me.

Ive left my eyes and some skin tone in the photo to help you get a better idea, what you can't see is my cheeks have a rosy coloring most of the time.

In my 20s, I had everything from platinum blonde to jewel colour red, pink, brown, pixie cut, boy short, long... and everything in the way

But somehow in my 30s...after a hugely stressful and low few years, my appearance and general well being took a back seat..

I just got stuck and ive suddenly woke up looking frumpy and having absolutely no idea how to improve myself. I've tried everything to teach myself so now I'm being brave and turning to strangers who can hopefully give me a genuine insight.

Any kind advice on what you think might suit, would really be appreciated! I am open to anything.

Kind advice on how to achieve the look at home would be welcome too (whilst hairdressers closed obviously) - im not afraid of home dying (even if it goes wrong) or precious about my hair!

Taking a deep breath and thanking you all in advance!

You look lovely, op. Your hair just needs a good trim - who's doesn't Smile. And would benefit from a deep conditioner which you could do yourself.

I think copper hair would look amazing on you

Gosh, I'd kill for your hair as it is now. Until the hair salons open, I'd only put moisturising packs on it. Then I'd embrace the autumn vibe you have going. Although some of your colouring points to autumn, it's possible you could be a Spring too. Look at Kettlewell website and think about which of those two palettes you are drawn to.
It might help to 'find yourself' if you cut out images of things you want to do, places you want to go, and how you want to look and pin them all on a mood board.

I think a nice light brown colour would look nice. I use the one davina McCall advertises the garner nutrise in a box. It's very conditioning makes a nice shine too can get in boots or Superdrug

@Handforthparishcouncilclerk honestly, I have no idea. They were at such different times of my life. I loved having very blonde/grey hair and short hair, but I want to have a look that really suits me. I really can't say which look was best for me, as I genuinely don't know. My happiness never had anything to do with my hair, or looks, just a time of my life. Now I'm so desperate to find a look that suits me, rather than just 'experimenting'

I'm going to have a look at the Kettlewell colours website now :)

Really impressed with the Kettlewell website and considering giving a consultant an email to see if colour analysis would be possible after this covid business. Thank you for pointing me to the website.

You're gorgeous and your hair is lush. I can see it copper too!

Offthewallisaladder · 15/02/2021 23:26

Thank you so much to everyone who has replied, its made me feel... more confident? I think is the right way to put it.
Such kind comments from everyone. I really appreciate it.

I'm thinking of getting a vibrant copper colour, box home dye -.would i need to bleach it first? I'm quite worried im going to end up with an awful bright brassy orange/ginger!

As I said, im not precious about my hair, so if that did happen - I would just deal with it, but if anyone can offer advice on how to colour to minimise that happening? Or which box colour to get?

You look beautiful as you are, I hope everyone has managed to inject some confidence into you. I don't really have any advice, but let us know what you decide to do and how it goes!

Don’t fix what isn’t broke!

grassisjeweled · 16/02/2021 00:19

You are beautiful. I bet you'd really suit gold, grey, burgundy, sage green.

PickAChew · 16/02/2021 00:20

Your hair is already quite light. Don't mess about with bleach at home.

JMAngel1 · 16/02/2021 07:05

I think you should wait but if you can't, you could try a semi colour in a level 8 with copper tones - don't do a permanent at this point as it could really grab onto your lighter areas and wind up too dark and patchy.

You really don't have to pay for a colour analysis - you're either a Spring or autumn (personally I think Spring as you're not high contrast) so check out the colours for both those seasons and see which ones you gravitate to. You will know instinctively which ones suit you and make you feel excited to wear them.

JMAngel1 · 16/02/2021 07:10

Wella colour touch in 8/73 would be gorgeous on you.
