Help! Facial sun cream recommendations needed

FrenchFancie · 14/02/2021 18:18

I need a new facial sun cream - must be spf 50 or more (I had non malignant skin cancer chopped off my nose last year so high spf is key). Ideally I’d like something that won’t break me out in spots, is non sticky and I can put make up on over it, and not tinted as they always go a funny shade on me!

I was using the la Roche posay one but I got burnt with it last year so in the market for something new / better.

Price not a massive issue (but you know, not silly prices of 100s of £)

What do you really rate? I live most of the year in Cyprus so need to start thinking of this soon!

Thanks!

Loving nivea uv facial sun cream spf 50. I worried it would cause a breakout as thicker than LRP but it's lovely.

DazedandConcerned · 14/02/2021 20:37

Sunsense SPF 50 sun cream for the face. It has a slight foundation tint. From Australia.

Was initially prescribed by the GP for my husband. Very pale - looks like a ghost - red haired. Very Irish. Since the initial prescription I’ve just bought it off Amazon now I know what’s recommended. They also do a normal one in big pump bottles for holiday. He’s never burned since even in Egypt in July - 50 C in Aswan.

My mum now uses it. She had basal cell carcinoma twice on her nose and swears by it.

FrenchFancie · 15/02/2021 07:18

Oh I like the look of the sun sense one, will look on. Amazon. I tend to think the Aussies are very good at sun care for a reason....

I think Ultra sun face is amazing comes in 30 or 50. It's the only sun cream that doesn't trigger my rosacea.

Allthebubbles · 15/02/2021 08:01

Also when I use Ultra sun face or body as directed I never burn or even change colour much, even with factor 30.

CMOTDibbler · 15/02/2021 08:05

I like the tinted SunSense one too

Hollyhead · 15/02/2021 08:08

I just use standard Boots Soltan - the body not face one. It works really well and is 5 star rated as well as a SPF - the star rating is just as important as spf.

I use this too and I have cystic acne. Hasn't affected it what so ever, sinks in nicely and doesn't leave a white residue either
elsaesmeralda · 15/02/2021 08:09

Oops quoted wrong post ! I meant the neutrogena one 😆

Ostryga · 15/02/2021 08:10

Biore Watery Essence. It knocks every other sunscreen out of the water.

Not greasy at all, no white caste, makeup sits beautifully on top, doesn’t break you out. I have about 30 sunscreens (and tried all the once’s mentioned) and this is superior in every way.

elsaesmeralda · 15/02/2021 08:10

Oh for ffs, the first neutrogena one 🤦🏼‍♀️

OrangeBlossom28 · 15/02/2021 08:10

Ultrasun or Altruist

ginting409 · 15/02/2021 08:16

This is a really helpful. I had malignant melanoma removed in 2019 when I was 30. I'm so careful now and have already been trying lots of different sunscreens to find ones that don't feel horrible on my skin all day! Thanks for all of the recommendations, I'll definitely be trying some of these. Thanks for this helpful thread OP.

wearingmymask · 15/02/2021 08:22

Great thread!

I also really need to start wearing facial SPF.

I really hate heavy moisturiser....I can only bear to use Clinique hydrating gel, which sinks in almost immediately and I can't feel.
Are any of these suggestions like that??
I'm interested in the Biore Watery Essence @Ostryga

Grognonne · 15/02/2021 08:41

The Kiehl’s one, doesn’t even feel like suncream. Nice and light to go on and no white streaks.

Frezyderm feels like a silicone type primer and is good. I've tested and tested that being v pale and have never so much as caught the sun with it on

I second this too. Frezyderm is Greek as well and you can get it easily in Cyprus (I have family in Cyprus) assuming, OP, you live south of the island.
Trying81 · 15/02/2021 08:57

I’ve had the same, removed last year from my face

I have a dermalogica one which you can mix with your moisturiser - seems good, but not had the weather yet to know how well it protects

sleepyhead1980 · 15/02/2021 09:00

I would really recommend Tropic, no nasty chemicals in it either. You'll probably have a local seller in your area. I know people tend to avoid MLM stuff but honestly Tropic is the exception, it's amazing.

eatalotofstrawberries · 15/02/2021 09:31

Cetaphil Defence, it's a factor 50 moisturiser. Dermatologist recommended it.

FrenchFancie · 15/02/2021 12:44

Yes in I’m the southern part of the island. I might pop into the local pharmacy to ask about the frezyderm one - they are usually pretty good but the skincare is eye wateringly expensive.... it’s all premium brands.
